Salt Beer

It may have begun with laborers who believed that putting salt in their beer would prevent muscle cramping during hard labor - I guess that would be similar to the "old days" when people working in extreme heat would take salt pills for the same reason. (Now we'd just give them a sports drink of some sort.) There's some logic to it - the extra salt makes you thirsty, you drink more, and staying hydrated is what prevents cramps.

The other reason would be to get rid of the carbonation - salting beer brings up the head.

I cant tell you exactly why but it changes the flavor for the better. I have done it for over 20 yrs and just dont enjoy a beer unless i have salt for it. As with anything you would just have to try it and see if You like it or not.

Salt enhances the taste of beer.I cannot drink a can,or bottled beer without salt.If by chance, I have to drink draft beer I also salt it.I do not like the taste of beer without salt.

it's just individual preference. i started drinking beer with salt since my last trip to Mexico. before - i could hardly drink beer. now - i drink it but with salt only. it lessens bitterness of beer. i also add some lemon fresh to the beer (then the name of the drink is mechelada - very nice).

Labourers knew that if you had low salt in your body and then drank beer at the end of s hot day, you'd dilute your sodium levels more and end up with cramps. Adding salt helps the body to regulate fluid levels and replenish low levels of sodium.
