An out of body experience is when your spirit leaves your body. This happens to everyone at death. But a few people have experienced this while still alive. Paul speaks of one potential occurrence of this in 2 Corinthians 12. Some people think it may happen when a person dies for a few minutes and then are brought back to life. Some think Paul may have experienced this when he was stoned & beaten to near death. They think he may have died for a few minutes had the experience and then his body was revived back to life.

Once i electrocuted myself on accident while adjusting the distributor on my truck, it made me feel weak and weird so I stopped and went over to a friends house and decided to play nintendo and get stoned, when I took a big hit on the bong i suddenly felt ice water run up my spine and my viewpoint moved from my eyes to the top of the room, looking down i noticed my body sliding out of the chair and my friend and girlfriend looked over at me and jumped up to see what was wrong, when suddenly i felt a great weight settle upon me and suddenly i was back in my body looking at them.

It's an experience that some people have claimed happened to them when they died and were resuscitated.. They claim that they rose above their body and watched the doctors and nurses working on them..When they were resuscitated, they returned to their body..There was a book called Life After Death which wrote of these experiences...

I experienced one when I was about six years old. I felt myself flying over our neighbors house and I looked down and could see my parents and my older brother talking with the other neighbors. I know that it happened when I was asleep, but during the experience it was late afternoon. I haven't been able to explain it even though it was 40 years ago. If you get any plausible explanations, please let me know.

Absent from the body is present with the Lord. There are many types though. Some use that phrase when they have died and come back to life. In reference what they experienced on the other side.

It refers to experiencing something from outside your body. Of course you aren't actually outside your body, otherwise you wouldn't be able to experience anything. It's just a kind of hallucination.
