It's a personal choice I think...to drink or not.
I believe that it is completely overrated. A nice glass of wine with a nice dinner is fine. But to over drink is not good, to get drunk only leaves you feeling bad the next morning. So yes to some it is overrated.

In moderation a little alcohol may even be healthy. But as with anything overindulgence can make it a very harmful substance. Jesus turned water into wine at a wedding feast. Paul told Timothy to take a little wine for his stomach problems. By the way he really only told him to "take a little" cause it was Paul's bottle. LOL Wine was used as a medicinal wash in wounds like alcohol today. Yes it is overrated as a socail drink and many people use it to self medicate for depression. But back to the Bible, "wine makes the heart of man glad" only overindulgence "makes him feels pains when he was not struck" I like a glass of wine with my meal occassionally. I feel it helps with digestion. Government sure likes the taxes they collect, that's why bootlegging is illegal because the government doesn't get any taxes from bootlegging.

Drinking alcohol in most places is tied to their culture and becomes quite like a ritual.

England is a good example of that. A lot of alcohol consumed just because it is the thing to do. People just don't want to be different. Being part of the group is a very strong incentive to drink.

Alcohol also becomes an excuse for many.

Over rated I do not know. It is a very big problem so all of us in many ways.

Nothing beats a good glass of wine with dinner, but if someone is going to be stupid about how they are drinking alcohol...well, they are just being stupid.

It irritates me that people say alcohol is somehow evil or leads down a path of despair. If people would drink in moderation, and use their heads then alcohol is not overrated.

When people drink for the sake of getting drunk then alcohol is WAY overrated!

I believe it is. The ads show people laughing and having fun while drinking. Hey, you can do that without the drinks too. It makes you uninhibited and if you drink too much, ill. The next day can be lost, if you drank too much the night before. I don't want to lose a day! But, in the end it is a personal decision.

Depends on what your using it for. I get really bad headaches and besides a loratab, which I cant take all the time, a beer is the only thing that can relax me enough to ease the pain. Now dont get me wrong, I occasionally have a few drinks just for fun.

Yes it is. Society and other people have put an idea into so many people's heads that alcohol is something you have to use and over use to enjoy your life. That's not true. People who actually enjoy their alcohol drink it in moderation - they enjoy the finer more expensive drinks and they end up either being a brewer or a collector.
