Legend says there was one once, but in disguise. That's the only way a woman could be a pope, because the pope must be a priest, and the Catholic church will never ordain women as priests.

yes there is a rumour that there was once a female pope so for many years after the pope had to be confirmed as male by the other bishops in the sisteine chapel before they could be ordained as head of the catholic church, there might be another female pope if the catholics modernis but i can't see that happening in my lifetime as it took them up until the 1960's to decide to read the mass in english not latin and facing the congregation , catholics i can't understand them; and i go to a catholic college (but am not catholic).
