I think it depends on what your budget is and how many guests you are having a great deal. I recently got married and we ummed and ahhed over favours for ages, the research I did generally came back that unless it was immediately edible or drinkable it would tend to get left and forgotten. I ended up making butterfly shaped biscuits and icing them, not terribly oringinal I know, but very expensive to buy ready made, dirt cheap to do yourself- I was surprised how little time it took, and I got many complements from the 90 ish guests- many of whom thought we had bought them! If we had had a small wedding I would have preferred to get individual and personal gifts and spend a little more per person, but having so many people there, the biscuits worked brilliantly and I can't think of anything I would have chosen insted!

If you mean little gifts for the tables, sometimes known as favours, the last wedding I saw (not a guest), all the guests were given a 'lucky dip' lottery tickets. I don't know what happened if they were for the lottery that day! Did all the guests go looking for a TV when the lottery was drawn?

Hi,

I think it nice for guests to have a keepsake of the day - maybe get some lovely little minuture alcohol bottles and those little cameras on each table so guests can take own pics of the day. Also get something done like a little bookmark or something with your sisters wedding date and names ect.

For the kids a nice balloon on each table with a bag of sweets at bottom will keep them entertained and make lovely treat...

I got married 2 and a half years ago and I had small gift bags with tissue paper and a small bottle of spirit (whiskey or vodka etc), for those who didn't drink I put sweets in, chocolates and love hearts. That way you can personalise the gift tag for each individual but it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Remember your guests are there to share your day, not to be showered with gifts.

I don't know if you are having kids there or not but I did and I gave them a bag too but in theirs I had a small colouring book and some crayons to keep them busy. I also put in some bubbles and small toys like yo-yos etc and ofcourse sweets. This keeps them quite during speaches etc.

Love hearts and lottery tickets are the 'in' thing now, but anything goes. I will probably have lovespoons because they are a traditional Welsh gift, but you do not need to spend too much. Something peronalised with guests' names on would be nice.

The place cards were a front see through sheet with the guests name and then the wedding info (bride groom date etc), backed by/attached to a lovely natural peice of paper which you take home and plant and it is emedded with seeds which grow beautiful flowers :)

Oh yes! In Malaysian weddings they boil eggs for a day before the wedding, the shells turn brown and then they package them up in sweet little baskets, pouches etc and tie with ribbon to soemthing with a flower on it! Either a stem, a posey or a pretty 'wreath'. They have whole shops dedicated to things that hold eggs (even silver things, wire boxes, paper boxes...you name it.). It's to with wishing guests prosperity and fruitfulness and in the case of couples who're married...fertility..including the couple getting married!

How about a gold chain with a charm depicting the wedding day in one form or another? Not knowing what you can afford presents a problem for answering.

A CD of love songs chosen by the couple with a picture of them and the wedding date on the cover.

Don't know how original this is though.
