The stores our closed here in Germany-what can we use besides carrots?

My husband caught a couple Pike fish last night, and found a recipe that requires carrots-stores our closed on Sundays, so what can he use instead-any spices that taste similar, or another suggestion?

Fennel has a faintly sweet taste that might work. As far as texture, almost any root veg-parsnips, turnips, beets.

Try V8 juice if you have that or can get it at a liquor store. Or maybe celery salt.
