It would make things easier if I can join an existing cooker cable to a slightly smaller 2.5mm cable that goes from my house to my studio in the garden. I will get everthing checked by a qualified friend at some stage. would this set up be OK?
Thanks.

I'd ask you qualified friend, if you are gonna do it anyway, remember that with any spur off of any supply, don't exceed 13amps, or 3000watts of power from any spur.Make sure you add a 13amp spur fuse box inside the house, and put a 5amp fuse in it to be safe... Note: that if you do not have electrical alterations done by an approved electrician, it may invalidation any insurance in case of fire or death.... get a quote from a professional, and use armoured cable for outdoors

Would not say it would be safe if circuit was rated over 20amp. The smaller cable will over heat if rated higher therefore either double up like what is actually done with ring mains or use a sub RCD/GFCI breaker isolater panel rated at max 20 amp on 6mm cable end.

No. Anything done outside the house must be done by a part P qualified person according to the new (ish) regulations.
Joining cables especially outdoors is dangerous.
Outdoor runs must be done using armoured cable.

The smallest conductor "could desire to" manage to dealing with the only right present day. If one is going to hold 5 amps however the smallest twine in trouble-free terms handles as much as 3 amps it is going to soften and reason a hearth. that smallest cable has to have the skill to deal with the utmost present day _ and then some. sooo if your greatest present day is 5 amps the smalles cable ought to hold extra suitable than this. word: Resistance is larger for smaller conductors - it incredibly is why it is going to hold much less present day and could supply off lots extra warmth for the comparable present day. If the only resistance present day is the conductor itself. If conductor one is wearing 3 amps its resistance is ( at 12 V) V/A = R 12/3 = 4 ohms If conductor 2 is wearing 5 amps its resistance is ( at 12 V) 12/5 = 2.4 ohms for this reason, the conductor that could carry 3 amps is a smaller conductor and has an more desirable resistance than the conductor that could carry 5 amps. meaning, smaller conductor has an more desirable resistance. bear in mind this, the Amps are no longer in trouble-free terms pumped via and the gentle gets what's sent to it. No, the lighting fixtures will draw the present (amps) via yet at a fee desperate via the resistance and the voltage. So if the smaller twine got here with the lighting fixtures, for a undeniable voltage this might manage to dealing with the present. in case you connect a much bigger twine to this which will incredibly cope with the comparable present day. the only much extra present day can come via is that if the lighting fixtures themselves draw extra present day, then the bigger twine will cope with this however the smaller twine won't. So the two the lighting fixtures themselves will short out of the twine will soften / reason fire. because it incredibly is nevertheless you could connect a much bigger twine to deal with the present which would be drawn via the lighting fixtures. word: In plumbing, the actual water pass in a much bigger pipe won't pass for the period of the smaller pipes - they might burst. additionally, in electrical energy, the present carried via a much bigger conductor might soften the thinner conductor because of fact the present is larger for the bigger conductor.

not a good idea. the electrical cord designed for the cooker will get hot enough but attaching a smaller cord to it could cause the cord to get dangerously hot.

Its not suitable as its got diff strength. The smaller wire will not be able to handle the power/
Get the same thcikness and strength wire
