Kat Von D?

Question

Is anybody else sick to death of hearing about her.
Yeah, she's hot and a fairly good tattoo artist, but people are just fawning over her because she is the latest fad.
Yeah, thats right, I called her a fad.
Why does everybody want to pay $500 for 30 minutes with her when they could find somebody just as good for much much less.
Frankly, I'm baffled.
Does anyone want to enlighten me as to why everyone loves her?

UGH. Shareef, how is it even POSSIBLE to have a crush on Amy Winehouse? Did you see my question about her? She is about 50 different kinds of scary.

I think Bobbi might be my new favorite person.
It's nice to know that Kat Von D hasn't gotten to everyone. She was on a show called Miami Ink, and now has her own show called LA Ink.

Shareef, I withdraw my Amy Winehouse related comments. Healthy Amy is very sexy, Skeleton Amy looks like STDs personified.


Also, being more on topic, I know several people that have met Kat and they all agree that she is a terrible b*tch. I dunno whether she really is nice or not, but thats really just specculation and not enlightening at all.

I saw her first show and she pissed me off hugely. She tattooed a guy in HIS HOUSE...she messed with her hair with gloved hands....I didn't see any barrier film on anything...

Can you say cross contamination?!

THEN she takes off only one stupid black glove (I despise those) and holds a mirror for the guy with her GLOVED hand anyway!!

So on the second episode, obviously the infection control skills of the other artists have rubbed off on her because she seemed a little cleaner, but sorry - I would not let her touch me.

Apparently she is too cool for infection control classes.

I like her. I like her just because shes about the most famous female tattoo artist. Thats a lot of these days. These days its still shocking to some if their doctor is female. Let alone being a female in a really male dominated industry, and then becoming a little famous. Thats something to be recognized for. Yeah, shes hot too and that probably helped with the guys likin her. but I like her because i want to be like her. I want to be a female tattoo artist that people know. I want someone to ask a person I tattooed and them be darn proud to say it was by me.

500 dollars, thats the minimum of how much your tattoo can cost with her. Its a lot, and im really sure she didnt start out that way. Im willing to bet that she has a manager and publicist. they need money too. Im sure its one of their things. But that 500 for a tattoo, its because people know her work is good. They have seen it, theyve seen her tattooing others. People have seen her portfolio without stepping foot in her shop. Since everyone sees that yes it is good work, they are willing to pay a lot for that good work. And of course the right to say "Kat Von D did it."

and: think of a tattoo from her like getting an autograph from a celebrity. Its the same thing. People will over pay. But im sure if youre going to go to Kat Von D, youre not going to take in a simple 100 dollar scetch of a simple star. People trust her for her portraits and details.

OMG i think the same way! theres soooooooo many artist as good an better for much less an she gets all this fuss an attention hehe. i can list a dozen artist on the top of my head who are so much better then her. not that shes worth bashing but i hear time an time again "ohhh shes my favorite ohhhh shes the best " lol
edit oh yea an to the people saying shes the nicest person. the only episodes i watched of her were of her bitching an denying customers of thier tattoos because there idea werent up to her standards an such, like she was too bad *** to stup to thier level or something. id never do that

I really do like Kat Von D, and I think her tattoos are great. HOWEVER... I think that there are plenty and plenty of great artists out that that are as good as or better at what they do, and they don't have a 3 year waiting list and cost millions of dollars. I just wish that others would do their research and look for talent sitting in their own backyard.

I agree with you completely except for one point: I don't even think she's hot (i do think tattoos are pretty on women, that has nothing to do with it). On top of that her voice is annoying and has this "California kid" quality.

On an unrelated note, I have a crush on Amy Winehouse. go figure.

I'm not sick to death of hearing about her, because I think she's really a very good artist...but I hate listening to her talk. Her vocabulary is like a 14-year-old skater kid.

she is a very nice, and she loves what she is doing. and i know what you mean... her pictures on TV are kind of freaky. and people pay that much because they know that they can trust her because she is one of the most profesional tattoo artist out there, and people know that they will not get a messed up tattoo, and they do it just to say "i got to meet Kat Von D!!!!"

She is very gracious as a person. I got the opportunity to meet her. Very sweet woman, very real and much prettier in person. Its a mans world and when a woman busts in with talent, she is going to make a stir. Id rather hear about her doing something with her talents, having a good relationship with her mom and keeping her marriage healthy, than Britney, Lindsay, Nicole and Paris.

if you can find others to do just as well as she does, then enjoy your discovery!
