I arrived home from work at 2am with nobody awake, and my cat's food and drink bowls have been emptied and put on the counter without a note.

She is being put in her carrier in 45 minutes, with an hour drive. She is getting all the basic shots, and spayed. Should I give her some food and water before she goes, or do cats fast too like humans?

when a cat is going to surgery they too have to not eat or drink for the next ten hours prior to surgery.

DO NOT FEED YOUR CAT!! If your cat is getting surgery, the last thing you want is food in her system.

Anesthesia can trigger vomiting in cats. I see this all the time when I volunteer at low cost spay clinics. If your cat vomits while under anesthesia there is every chance she will aspirate the vomit and not be able to breath.

Water is fine. But if your kitty has eaten in the past 10 hours, you NEED to tell your vet so they can have the proper equipment ready just in case she should vomit and start choking while under anesthesia.

Hope this helps

Surgery can't be done with food in the stomach, they'd throw up during the time they're under anesthesia and asphyxiate. When the vet says no food, they mean it. Ditto the water.

Keep her fasted, she can eat at home once she's not under the anesthetic influence after the surgery is finished.
