It could be 28 minutes from now or 280 years from now. When the superpowers square off against each other in two camps, then come back and we'll talk world war.

Until then, just think regional conflicts, wars between rump states, proxy wars and brinksmanship. If you recall the Yom Kippur War in 1973, a coalition of Arab States (Egypt, Syria and Jordan) were soundly defeated by the Israelis. That was a worse situation than the current conflict and it didn't raise a blip on the world war radar (not that it didn't have the potential to spark a global war).

The next World War will involve a nuclear exchange, how could it not. In the first 30 minutes, nearly a billion people will have been vaporised, mostly in the US, Russia, Europe, China and Japan. Another 1.5 billion will die shortly thereafter from radiation poisoning. The northern hemisphere will be plunged into prolonged agony and barbarity.

Eventually the nuclear winter will spread to the southern hemisphere and all plant life will die. You ask when is the apacolypse, you are asking when will we commit global suicide. My answer is it won't happen soon because the larger superpowers are more rational than the rump states in the middle east.

Our biggest risk is an accidental launch of nukes by one of the nuclear powers.

Yes, I think its quite likely, and that the war will be over the last of the oil.

The main participants will be the main powers: China, USA, Russia and the EU. As to how the alliances would work out, that depends on how it starts - I can foresee scenarios resulting in pretty much every combination.

Worst case

Nato countries, EU contries not in Nato, Japan, Suth Korea, ISreal, and Inda

Vrs.

North Korea, Russia, Belaruse, Iran, CHina, Pakistan, Severl other stans, Turkey, and maybe some baltic nations.

Thats worst case and if all the worlds conflicts were to erupt at once

And even on a further streach, Venezuela would be on the bad guy side(from western world point of view) and prolly mexico/brazil/argintina on our side

Now that would be a conflict eh??

I think it's possible "ww3" might come about due to international wrangling over strategic control of oil or mineral reserves in the middle east or africa.

No doubt a lot of countries would be involved, that's what makes it a "ww." The big 3 or 4 or so might side off in any number of combinations, depending on the circumstances, though I'm sure for your european powers would likely stand with the US for example.

How likely any of this is, how likely it would be to degenerate into nuclear war, and how quickly, I don't think there's any way to know.

I do think America's current foreign policy is short sighted in its lack of regard for the risk of inciting such a wider conflict, which could cost millions of lives.

Especially since I think US foreign policy is mainly focussed on maintaining the profitability of what are for the most part luxury markets, like the one in oversized privated owned commuter vehicles.

As for the idea that "we're already in ww3," it makes me laugh.

God forbid that people who think they're in a war now should ever actually have to experience one.

No i dont think there will be because there is no need for soldiers anymore the war would be so short using just atom bombs and rockets so yes maybe there could be one although it would be veery short and would wipe out so much of the worlds population i think also america and korea would be the main enemys and participants

There will never be a WWIII with Middle Eastern countries because we can squash them like cockroaches any time we want. They may in the long run outbreed us and take over our societies from within however.
Any real world war III will be between the US (with Nato hopefully as allies) and China.

I don't think there would be another world war 'cause everytime there is a matter of dispute between two countries, the UNO settles the disputes and thus prevents war.

It's hard to say,but we may be heading for it with Iran.Iran is not going to back down and we'll end up hitting them first to prevent them from attacking Isreal, then us.
