I do Rune readings, although this could equally pertain to Tarot.

In the spread I use, there are positions entitled "Forces working for you" and "Forces working against you". I never know how to make an interpretation when a negative rune occupies the 'Forces working for you' slot or visa versa.

I would be grateful of advice in either case.

Generally, a negative rune occupying the "against you" position refers to a negative influence in your life or acting on the situation you're reading for. If it's in the "for you" position, it may mean that whatever good influences you would have had are being superceded by a negative one.....that's the best advice I can give without knowing more specifics of the reading.
