hi scorpion, lack of concentration is caused by lack of proper sleep, not eating for long periods of time and because our minds are racing so fast, with so many other thoughts at once, it cannot focus...concentrate on the task at hand. if you say you have always been so, there are exercises you can do, to improve it. get at least 7-8 hours of sleep, make sure you have something to eat for breakfast, even if it's a glass of orange juice. the brain needs fuel, sugar, to wake up. and now, the hard exercise that gets easier. whatever you are doing, focus on that and don't let another thought in. if you start to get distracted from the task at hand, stop doing it, clear your mind and try to start over again. some people can't get to sleep because thier racing thoughts keep going on and on and they can't fall asleep. they learn to quiet thier minds. same kind of thing for you. you want to quiet your mind from all things except for what you are working on. another way to practice this is to sit in a comfortable position and looking at something... a painting on the wall, a photograph...whatever and focus just on that item. don't let any other thoughts in..if they try to creep in, say STOP to yourself in your mind and then go back to focusing on what you were looking at. now this will help if you can't concentrate on anything at all, you learn to by looking at an object and noticing everything about it, each detail. or if you can't concentrate because you have too many thoughts clouding your mind's focus. i wish you good luck with this. i hope this helped! :)

its very common and can be overcome quite easily. the first thing to remember is that concentration is a Choice. you may get bored, you may suddenly become interested in something else but dropping your concentration is an act of the will.
solid concentration is a behavioural habit, just like daydreaming.this means quite simply you need to make it a habit by doing it. you will not feel great forging this new habit. you will feel the same way you do about it now but dont let your feelings dictate your actions.
start with some easy stuff. for example you can say:" i need to focus on this for the next 20min - then just do it. your mind will be racing but ignore it, keep focusing on the task.
now, if you do this for a week or so you will habit made it a habit. in other words instead of having a habit of "lack of concentration" you will have a habit of solid concentration. you will do it naturally. its easy to maintain it at this point
Good luck!

Having been diagnosed with depression and having had a problem with concentration was one of the worst things that I went through, for over 40 years. For everybody else I was normal having these problems. Then this past winter I ended up finding that there were other reasons for my feeling that way, one of the things I always felt was a 'band' around my forehead. It ended up I had pinched nerves in my neck and when they were released the 'band' was gone and I felt like I walked out of a cloud. I have been able to have some very clear thinking and my concentration is better also. But it was due to something they completely overlooked for all this time.

Casues:
1. Habit of not concentrattion: if since child hood if you are not concentrating on the things this comes to habit later on. THis is because at child hood you were not so serious. But after grown up you shoudl have make habit to concentrate.
2. Sleeps disorders
3. Eating disorders are also reasons for that.
You can now easily achieve it. if you practise it conciously. make self concentrate.
Start it from the activity that you like most. For example: Football or volleyball or video game or any positive activity that like you.
after getiing confidence in this activity concentration implement this thing in all ur life activity you will surely achioeve concentration..

I feel for you. I always feel out of it and cannot focus very much at all. Not like I cant concentrate, but I am constantly in a daydream like state and feel detached from my surroundings. I loose track of which direction I am going, what street I am on, what day it is, etc... sometimes I go into a room and walk out not knowing where to go or where I came from. I want people to understand this and I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do. My roomate told me today that he noticed that I daydream a lot, I need to stop and focus, no wonder I wrecked my car... I felt like crying honestly.

Very often this is a sign that you may have Major Depression and or ocd. Thoughts have a way with reapeating themselves in your mind and this does impact your concentration, focus and productivity.
