The primary problem with underage drinking is getting busted. Aside from that you don't really have any additional risks when compared with someone who is of legal age and just starting to drink.
However, in the case of operating a vehicle, an underage drinker has much less time behind the wheel. This could mean that an underage drinker would be at a much higher risk of an accident. Even at alcohol levels below the legal limit.
I would advise you not to drink before legal age. An arrest record is not a good thing to have.
But if you feel you must (and I thought I had to back then) try not to put yourself in a situation that alcohol could make hazardous.

yep, if you drink underage, you just risk too much.
A little fun is not worth the fines, incarceration, and stigma attached to the crimes if you are caught. It is not like the old days when I was a youngster, and the authorities were more lenient -- we got away with it all the time. After I was 18 though, I spent probably $1000 bucks on alcohol related issues. I could have had a lot of stuff for $1000 bucks.
risk one: Health risks. -- alcohol affects body processes for developing adults and neurological damages. Look up biological effects of alcohol on physiology.
risk two: Fines and legal ramifications -- not even considering driving while intox, just get caught and the cost is more than your parents want to pay, or your allowance will allow. And if you are over 18 but under 21, it does go on your record. Look up laws for your area.
risk tres: addiction -- look at your family and decide if you know any alcoholics, see their lives and ask if you want to be like them. AA meetings suck - a bunch of whiners making excuses about how bad their lives are and why they must drink or go to AA clutches to drink coffee and smoke cigarettes. They don't want to live anymore and need help to make it through each day. Addiction really is not a good thing. Just go to a meeting and listen, don't speak -- everyone is welcome usually and it will change your mind if you don't get proud and say you will never be like them...
That's what they used to say.

Gotta agree with Frogme. The poor spelling and the mixing of caps is extremely annoying...makes me want to have a drink.
Underage drinkers have no experience with alcohol, and are a much higher risk of alcohol poisoning. They are likely to do stupid things on a dare, or underestimate the effects of alcohol. They're more likely to get into stupid fights - combination of puberty and alcohol aren't fun. If they're driving, it's their most recently learned motor skill and the one most easily affected. It will affect their schoolwork. AND IT'S ILLEGAL. Frankly, if this is a speech for school, you should do REAL research...on the web, or talk to someone from Al-Anon or AA.

Really I think the drinking age is way too overrated for lack of a better word.
Why is 21 responsible, but not 20?
In Europe I understand that the drinking age is more liberal if non existent.
Sure, I don't think 12 y/o are able to make responsible decisions as far a drinking, but neither are many adults.
And think about those in the military over Iraq. I wonder if they are 18 and on R&R are they restricted from drinking?
Old enough to die for their country, but not to drink...

Well, Death, Pregnancy, Death of friends and loved ones, Fires, Suicide, Irresponsible Adults Contributing to Minors. Jail time for the adults who commit this crime. All sorts of mental health issues due to the chemicals and actions produced by them affecting the childs mental and social development. Younger children trying to emulate older teenagers and being poisoned. Thats just a few issues, then there are the attacks by society if the underage drinker is a celebrity. Way too much for a young person to have to endure. Good luck with your speech hun. Take Care-Rachel.
