I agree, and also stopped going years ago. I don't see a dilemma here. Churches are political institutions, and I am not interested. I like to read the words of Jesus in the Gospels. I feel that I am a better Christian, and a better person because of this.
Peace !

If the Church you are attending is boring and is made up of a lot of Laws called Religion, then you shouldn't go. You should get away from it. This means that their preachers, priest, ect. are not being led by the Holy Spirit and that the Holy Spirit is not in operation in that Church. The Holy Spirit will not dwell in a House that doesn't teach the Word, or a house that he doesn't feel welcome. You should be excited to go to Church if the Church is teaching and preaching the Word. The Holy Spirit will bring you back there each week. You are feeling the same thing a lot of people feel. A lot of these Churches today are not preaching the gospels and we are not suppose to support them we are suppose to get away from the false teaching and seek a Church that is preaching the gospels and if you can't find one, then you will have to seek the Lord on your own or with friends. The real Church is not the building anyway, Its the true believers, the ones that really seek and follow the word of God. I stopped going a long time ago. I have visited a lot of Churches and still do once in a while, but If I don't feel the moving of the Holy Spirit, then I don't go back. I watch it on the Internet, sounds kind of silly, but Its just like being right there. I started out watching with a real negative mind and thought I would find a lot of fault, and not true worship, but that wasn't the case at all. Shame on me for feeling that way and passing judgment before I had given it a chance. There is no pressure in what you wear, how you look, what you drive, how much money you have, if you attended last week, what you did last night. I have learned a lot from watching it and I want to watch it, I really hate it if for some reason I have to miss it, which is not very often. I feel like they are teaching the word of God, and everything they teach does line up with the word of God. I feel like I am a better Christian because of it, So you might want to check something like that out, you might find yourself a lot happier, and a lot closer to God. Good Luck in your searching.

I attended a church for about 10 years.
I quit (at 13yo) because its teachings were contrary to Bible teachings.
I wanted to learn what the Bible actually teaches, not men.
Search for God with your heart & mind:
"If... you call out for understanding itself, and give forth your voice [call] for discernment itself, if you keep seeking for it as for silver, and as for hid treasures you keep searching for it, in that case you will understand the fear of God, and you will find the very knowledge of God." --Pr 2:3-5
"One of the teachers of religion standing there listening, to the discussion [between the Sadducees & Jesus], asked Jesus, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important? " Jesus replied,
"The one that says, 'Hear O Israel! Jehovah our God is the one and only God. And you must love him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength." --Mark 12:28-31, see also Luke 10:25-27, & compare Ps 83:18
"Beloved ones, do not believe every inspired expression, but test the inspired expressions to see whether they originate with God, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world." --1 John 4:1-21
" The Be·roe′ans were noble-minded, for they received the word with the greatest eagerness of mind, carefully examining the Scriptures daily as to whether these things were so." Acts 17:10,11
"Make Sure of all things; hold fast to what is fine." --1Th 5:21
Praying for God's guidance to learn the truth about him, was the second step I took. The third step was to apply myself in order to learn what the Bible itself teaches.

I got kicked out of Catholic school in 7th grade, I still practice random acts of kindness though, I buy homeless people a sandwich, turn drunks over onto their face on the sidewalk (don't leave them on their back's, they can vomit and choke on it), I help little animal's caught in a jam, I learned enough important things, and I had my mother's support to show me the "RIGHT" thing's to do. Most religon's teach good things (Except "Islam" Of course, clearly an "EVIL" religion with NO GOOD coming out of it)

I'm glad you are tired of being controlled.
That's probably my #1 problem with religion, how the leaders tell everyone what to think/believe and do.
That and government control, but that's another subject. Congratulations.

No Christian goes to church to see God they go there to
pay for all the statues, candles, books (Bible),why do you think they hand the plate around and ask you for a pledge.
They make heaps of money out of you and say it is for Christ
Now what the hell would a Ghost want with money.
Then they want you to turn Cannibal?? By drinking the blood
of Christ and his flesh also, what type of Christian religion
is that ????

Geez find a better church!! No christian or church should strike guilt into another! They should give them encouragement and empowerment to get closer to Christ!
By the way, don't let any Apathist encourage you to quit Christianity.

No contradiction, my friend. God is aloof to us, if He cares, and, besides, He probably doesn't care, anyhow.
I've sought God, and been abused for this desire by other christians. I'm just tired of the pain.

Well Andy, the Christian church is the kingdom of God upon the earth and we Christians have a great deal of responsibility in learning and spreading the word. It sounds like you nee to find another church and refresh yourself.
