I need more motivation to join and stick with cross country. It starts monday and I'm not in good shape. Is there anything I can do to make it sound more exiting to myself? And stay that way?

Well, do you basically like the sport? If not, look into some other sport.

If you do, then remind yourself that your teammates and coaches are counting on you to do your best. Make plans to reward yourself for making the goals you set for yourself -- maybe a movie, or a pedicure, or a super-cute track suit. And remember, you won't get into good shape by doing nothing! Start doing a little bit now -- you'll be amazed at how fast you get back into it (if you like it, of course).

BTW, treat yourself nicely the first few days of practice. Ask your coach whether a hot bath or a cool bath will be better, and treat yourself to a plastic cup full of honey-lemonade while you soak to some great music. Or a plastic bottle of your favorite sports drink.

Well if you don't like to run then don't do x-c. But if you do and your not that great just think of the pay off when you get a really good base and can run really far. I always like to own people when we have to run like a mile in gym...it's a nice feeling. Besides you can meet new people at x-c!
