The Quakers started the Cadburys Chocolate Company in Hobart, Tasmania in the 1800s. I think there is also one in Dunedin, New Zealand. Basically, because they were Quakers they weren't allowed to work in the Professions or as Academics, so they took up manufacturing, instead.

The Cadbury factories in England and Tasmania were originally owned by a family who were practicing Quakers. The company was not ever owned by the Quaker religion. The Cadbury family ran the factories along the lines of "looking after the workers", and whole towns were built for the employees, with houses, schools, hospitals, playing fields, etc, for the benefit of the workers. The Cadbury company was taken over by Schwepps many years ago, so there is now no connection with the Quaker religion at all.
