well you cant use English one Pound notes any more but the bank will exchange them for you ..the last date of a pound note used is the 11 of march 1998!!!

Any bank should still take pound notes, note the wording, I promise to pay? on them. Mind you you might get more than a pound for them on E.Bay.

Scotish £1 notes can still be used

They can always be used! they make great paper airplanes, boats, and even hats for dolls. Another use is folding them like a flag and using them for paper (american) football.
Another use for them is lighting cigars. It's a complete waste of a note. But you feel richer than hell doing it!
