My 2 yr old male cat has been licking off his fur...mostly on his legs and hind end, but also scratching a lot, and has little "bald" spots on his little body. He does not have fleas. Has taken Advantage religiously since he was young. He is otherwise healthy, has all his shots and regular vet visits. I.m realizing I should prob. take him to the vet, and he may have a skin condition. Any ideas of what this skin condition could be?

Last time he was at the vet for a regular visit, it was just starting...and I asked them, and the vet was very dismissive...oh it's nothing....and did no tests, etc. Now I am irritated I need to go back and give this dr. more money, when he could've figured this out back then, and saved my kitty this irritation. maybe i need to find a new vet...

Hello,
I work in a cats-only hospital, and so I'm hoping I can help.
Alopecia has many causes. It can be the food, flea allergy, contact irritants, mites, fungus, etc etc. You need to find a vet that isnt a complete moron to help you.
See if there is a cats-only hospital near you. If not, call veterinary clinics and dont be afraid to ask questions! Tell them you have an ongoing problem that your previous vet wasnt addressing. Ask what their experience is in handling cases of hair loss. Talk to the doctor or at least a tech.
There are so many vets that do a half-*** job. They will look at your cat and say "allergies" because it is such an easy diagnosis. Cats are not dogs. They are very sensitive to products like febreeze and bounce sheets and even scented litter. Your cat could have a skin infection or even mites. Your cat could be developing a food allergy. All of these require a vet who is willing to actually work on correcting the problem rather than give you a prescription with no tests.
I really feel for you and your dilemma. I hope you can find a competent doctor who can help you.
PS--dont switch food randomly. This could make the condition worse and really upset your cats tummy.

A trip to the vet is the order of the day.
You say your cat has taken Advantage religiously since he was young. Just a thought here, may be your cat has developed an allergic reaction to Advantage. Even if he has shown no signs of an allergic reaction before, that doesn't mean he hasn't now.
The same thing happen to me. Was fine taking a certain med. for quite some time then suddenly I wound up in the emergency room feeling like I was on death row.
These kinds of situations happen. One minute every thing's fine, the next minute all hell breaks loose.
This may not be an allergic reaction to Advantage, but could be to something else.
You're going to have to go to the vet to find out so your kitty can get some reliefe.
Good Luck

My cat also had a itching problem and I found out from my vet that most cats are allergic to "Fabreeze (excuse spelling, its late) and other room deodorant sprays. You most definately need to take him to a vet as soon as possible though and get a professional oppinion. Good Luck

Allergies, anxiety,it could be a number of things.I would take him to the vet where he can get some medication to relieve his itching. What do you feed him? A simple switch to a new food could have caused ,or could relieve the scratching.

seem on the food you're feeding now. seem on the 1st 8 aspects, the 1st 3 are the main necessary. substitute the food to Royal Canin, Nutro organic selection, organic stability, stable Gold, those meals are super products that furnish needed omega fatty acids from salmon oil, fish oil, or borage oil. those are super for the floor and coat. seek for those products on yahoo! to get a much better comprehend-how of them and what the aspects are. additionally for laying off try the defuminator its high priced in spite of if it works super. I easily have used all of them and easily like Royal Canin because of the fact they have breed particular meals for canines and cats. Their mature cat formula additionally is composed of glucosamine that's annoying to discover in a cat food.
