Let me say this 1st I love me!!! But a co worker disturbed me today she told me to my face that I look like a plain old black girl!! & nonthing is wrong with looking like anything. Now i know for a fact that isnt so. My mom is "black" my dad is "indian" i picked up more of my dads traits than my mom. & clearly looking at me you can tell that I am 1/2 of something..A coworker asked me which 1 of my parents was white? I said 1 is black 1 is indian. So my other coworker says what are you talking about she looks like plain old black girl.& that would be fine 100% black but clearly& physically looking at me i am not why woul she say that? Thats like looking at a dog and calling it a cat.. am i over analyzing? or was she indirectly being sarcastic??

IMHO yes you are over analyzing the situation. If it really bugs you talk to her about it and tell her why it bothered you what she said.

Those people who are just going to put you in some box because they havent opened the book to look inside are typically shallow people to begin with...

She could be messing around with you a bit in a teasing way...
Or could be something else...

Remember, when someone is mixed white and black, are they considered 1/2 white? or 1/2 black? hardly ever are they considered 1/2 white... they are consiidered to be black.. it is the way that society is...

If you look black, no matter how much of other things you got, youre considered black....

I look white so ill be considered as a whiteperson, in spite being only about 75% white (celtic/nordic/germaic) and the other 25% being cherokee, ethopian and middle eastern.

I do not look 1/2 or 1/4 of anything... I suppose that could be either a good or a bad thing..... because of the society we live in and the boxes that people are placed in because of race and ethnic make-ups of people.

She is being sarcastic and you are over analyzing. Be proud of your race, creed and color and stop worrying so much about what others are thinking or saying. Do some research and find out where mankind originated from. Find out about your heritage, your culture and then you will be more sure of yourself. After you have done all this, your co-worker can make the same statement about you and you wouldn't be the least bit bothered about it. Don't get all (Tiger Woods) on us.

Ignore her and like you say in your heart you know who and what you are. That means you can be Indian or Black and you get to choose. Although it is a mixed race situation and perhaps your friend is without this option. Look like dad then be so, an Indian.

It's great that you're proud of your genetics, we're all unique in some way. Don't let it bother you, she probably didn't mean anything by it, although she may have thought you weren't proud enough of your black half, and were trying to downplay it or something. Who knows? My advice is to not make any more out of it.

If your skin isn't very light, then I can see how she would think that. I have a friend, and er and her sisters all look like they're mixed with something, but they're not. My friend is really dark, but her hair is long and curly. All her sisters are light complected and their hair is straight. All the girls have hair down their backs. Their moms hair isn't straight at all, but their dad's is really wavy, but he isn't mixed either. Maybe she meant you look like a black girl with a perm or something.

Does it really matter? If you are happy with yourself why are you allowing something someone else said bother you. People bleed no matter what race they are. That is all you need to know. Only she knows what she was thinking. If she was black she probably wanted you to acknowledge her race, if she was white she probably thought you were black. Its not important. ;-)

She was just being plain rude. People like that you don't need in your life. Ignore the ignorant woman.

And yes, be proud of yourself and your heritage.
