What id really like to find out is Do most of you follow your own religious beliefs based on what you have been taught? Or do you learn and grow with your belifes based on your own life experiences?

The reason I ask is because I do believe in God and I know that Jesus died for our sins. But I do not in anyway, shape Or form consider myself religious. I have gained my spiritual insights based on what I have read in the bible, as well as whaat i've seen in my own life time. I have drawn my own conclusions about what is in the bible and I havent been "Taught" how im "suppose" to believe.

this question is not aimed as an insult to those who are religious, It is simply me wanting to understand how other people relate themselves to there beliefs.

Id like to ask a question to those people who would come to answer this question who claim that they "are religious" how they can profess religion, yet simultaniously condem others strictley because we dont believe the exact same way as they do?

If you believe in the same God that I do and youve read the bible, then you should know that god wants us to be at peace with each other and not so "Judgemental" towards one another.

there is only One 'Judge" that matters. and he is watching us all...

Your lack of understanding on the words of the bible that is why you are on that kind of position. Read and read until you could understand it . Ask God to help you understand his teachings.

I do the same. I read the bible and pray if I need clarification.
Religion will not save you, so don't think that just because you don't consider yourself religious- that its a bad thing.
Surprisingly, I went many years thinking that I was the only one out there that felt the way you and I do...
But I've been lucky to find other like me, and in no way is our faith low, but quite the opposite.
Many of us follow the bible very closely, even more so then other people that we've met that follow religion very closely instead.

I was raised southern Baptist. My parents were religious when I was younger. Almost my entire family has become atheist by choice after learning and reading. Only my mom is the last hold out being a deist with a rejection for all organize religion.

I gained my beliefs similarly, until I started watching Sylvia Browne on Montel Williams show. She's won me over to believing there is life after death for everyone, not just a select few. I still believe Jesus died true to what he taught, loving God and others and is an example for us. Also, you sound like my own daughter Jennifer...are you in White Lake?

Hi! Good question! I fully agree with you.The same with me.I was born & live in what's now called Russia(the former Soviet Union) which being totally Communist rule it did its best to shun Christianity. So none of humans taught me of God.But from age 14 I started to impact God's constant touch upon me.I found out He's Alive and moved the way you described about yourself,in practical way.He also cured me from infirmities & I still keep going with Him.I'm thankful to Him for all His helps & mercies!

I use to be a Christian, now am not, im a Muslim & never been happier, Islam gave me the answers i didnt find in Christianity, fact of the matter is the Bible has been edited many times, corrupted by man during the centuries to suit his way of life, so therefore one does not know what is true message & teachings of God & what is teachings of people who change the original teachings.

Early Christians did not belive the beloved ProphetJesus (Peace Be Upon Him)was son of God, nor did they belive Jesus (Peace Be Upon Him) was crucufied, i certainly dont belive Jesus (Peace Be Upon Him was crucufied & died for our sins.

I follow what the Holy Quran teaches, the teachings in the Quran are mixed with the experiances i have, matter if they are religious or other, the problem i had with the Bible was as i said the Bible has been changed many times, there are so many denominations of Christianity, the Holy Quran has never been changed and i follow the Quran best as i can.

I would never say i have my own thoughts on religion/God, like i will never belive there is other way to follow God, i belive in the Islam way, and i truly never been happier, thats why so many people in Christiaity are confused because some denominations say different and teach different to eachother.

Anyway this is my thoughts on this, maybe its irrelivevent to what you are asking, but this is how i put it, i follow my way and that way is through the Quran, Islam to me makes sense, Islam has the teachings of what the Early Christians belives, also what the Early Jews belived, but as i have stated the early Christians, & Jewish teachings have been corrupted, but in Islam ita way of restoring those original teachings.

One has to read the Quran & research about Islam to gaine knowledge about Islam, am not telling you should, am just saying one should not be weak minded/hearted &make judgement, they should do what they want to and whats in their heart. they should not listen to to othe manipulating people, or follow biased media, propaganda, one has to establish the facts, truth for themselves before jumping to conclusons.

By the way just want to say without Religion one would not know about God then way they do, i mean the 3 Monolestic relgions, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, one cannot say they belive in this God but dont believe or follow through these Religions, i belive thats just hyprcitical , weak minded, poor judgement, without these religions we wouldnt know about God being all one, All-Mighty, i dont mean the Greek Gods, or like that, i mean the God where some people belive as All-one, sorry if this has nufin to do with ur Question, just needed to get it iff my chest, Peace.

Why do people say these things? "Oh I deeply believe in deity and this central belief of this religion, and read its canon, but oh no...I'm not religious, in any way shape of form!"

It would be hard for me to give you my opinions on "religion", when you clearly don't have an idea on what the word means. But I'll try.

My religion wasn't "taught" to me. I researched everything that was out there, and finally found the religion that best fit what I already believed in. It was more about finding the correct label for myself (and again, I don't see what's so wrong with labels).

Rules are there for a reason. They are there for those who don't know how to behave otherwise. I am a Christian. I still don't refer to the bible for everything. I just try to do what I know in my heart is out of love. I do what I think is right. If I'm confused, I'll consult the bible.

I don't follow any religion after being raised Southern Baptist and then studying several other religions.
I prefer to question all things and not be told I should believe a certain way because so and so said so.

If a person feels they benefit from religion, good for them. I am against people coming to my door to tell me about their religion.
If people want to learn about your religion they will come to you; it is not necessary to preach or send out missionaries..

And I am definitely against people who abuse Yahoo Answers by spamming their religion in the guise of a question.

Both. Teachers are guides but you must have an honest seeking mind that demands the experience.

Ultimately everything is your responsibility, but it is often your ego that thinks you can find your way without a teacher. This is how people can become pretty dysfunctional.
