Government is the people's device for getting things done that are to large for the family group or are too disgustingly unpleasant for the individual to want to do for his-self on a daily basis.

Government can be anything you make of it. It can be good. It can be evil. See history, or even current events, for examples of both.
In America we are told that our government is "of the people, by the people and for the people." There is as much truth there as their is falsehood. If the United States were a government "of the people, by the people and for the people" would the people support a privately owned company having a monopoly over U.S. monetary policy?
Would 'the people' pay a personal income tax that there is no law requiring them to pay if it weren't for the threat of force upon them by 'the government?'
Do you really want to carry a Nazi-American National ID Card next year? Are you a terrorist?
Do you really want to be governed by an international government to which you have even less say (some say none) than even being able to vote and voice your political opinions? That's what the North American Union and the United Nations is all about!
You have the power to make a difference. One person can make an incredible difference. If they will stand on their own two feet and take a stand.
Jesus Christ. Martin Luther. Ghandi. Martin Luther King. Eric Kirkland.
The question really is what do you believe? What are you willing to stand up for? What are you willing to fight for?
America was founded by a tax revolt. There is still a tax revolution going on in America today. During the Colonial times, and throughout the American War for Independence, there were three groups of people.
One group were the Tories who supported the King and Crown and it's continued dominion over Americans. Another group was the Traitors (of whom my ancestors stood with and fought alongside) who support freedom and independence. Those groups were equal in size.
Then there was a third group. They were what I call the fencesitters. They probably assured both sides that they were 'with them' depending on who was asking but they essentially were the do nothing crowd.
We have plenty of do nothing Americans today. They might whine about social ills or political foibles but they hardly ever take any action whatsoever. We have plenty of people who vote but just voting, by itself, every couple of years or so is hardly an act of exemplary citizenship.
America has always been, and always will be, ruled by a minority. Very few people is all it takes to run this country. Just ask the owners of the Federal Reserve. They've been getting wealthier and wealthier, leeching off of the American people, ever since 1914.
They control most of the politicians in America. The evidence is substantiated by those few political leaders who consistently speak out against the private monopoly we call the Federal Reserve. They control much of the media. When was the last time you heard that the Federal Reserve was a privately owned corporation on the evening news? They control much of the curriculum in universities and public schools because our teachers and professors very rarely inform our students of the facts.
So what is government? What do you believe? What are you going to do about it? When?
Copy and paste this into an email. Forward it to your fellow Americans. It's well past time for Americans to wake up!

Basically, government was one function: to protect the rights of the citizenery. However, many governments abuse their power, deciding whose rights it will defend.
Absolute monarchies and dictatorships see themselves as the nation and care only for themselves.
Communism and socialism see the value of the party or society, such as it is, as having more value than individual rights. Communist and socialist nations have often fell into an elitist attitude.
Though, democracy is far from perfect, it is the best form of government.
