I worked in bookstores and I can tell you it is because far more people are interested in Oprah's latest "change your life" book than picking up Brian Greene's Fabric of the Cosmos. However in my house, the science books outnumber the self help books by more than 3 to 1.

Well that goes to prove that people love metaphysics and despise physics for Science de-mystifies and adds limits to our knowledge and ability. Honestly, who would go around the world, using Statistical Calculus and being a Trans-humanist, seeing all things as mere combinations and possibility? If you don't have meaning and order in life, how does knowledge help?

funny thing is that most all the self help books I read quote the bible that's why I started to read the bible. I figure if they can't write something better in 4000 yrs we are either getting more stupid or there has to be something about this book. Hmmmm
