ok well, My brother-in-law just died and nobody is telling me how he died. I was looking after my niece so I couldn't attend the funeral but my cousin told me he looked really different. His nails were alll purple/blue. From what I know, he sniffed but he had stopped for a very long time and even stopped drinking alcohol. But somebody just told me when a person dies and his/her nails are that blue/purple it means he/she died from drugs. It had to have been drugs because he was perfectly normal and healthy..he was a pharmacist except that he was an alcoholic a long time back and I think also did drugs. I'm really not sure..how do you think he died...I mean his nails were really purple/blue and looked very different. I've been to a lot of funerals and most people look almost the same but he looked very different.

Nails being purple/blue is a usual sign in a death of any cause. I think people relate it to drug abuse because cyanosis (blue fingernails or lips) is a common sign for a live person that has overdosed.

More than likely the family is embarrassed by the manner of his death and they are trying to keep it low key. A death caused by suicide or overdose can be an extremely painful and trying time for relatives. They just want to protect his memory.

The truth will come out eventually. Though blue fingernails are not necessarily a sign of a drug overdose, judging from what you have said about his life history, that is probably the proximal cause of his death. My condolence to you and your family.

This is one more reason not to do drugs: your friends and family are the ones that ultimately suffer.

i agree, here is not the best place for that Q+A..leave it a week or so and then ask someone for the truth,as the death may of been sudden and everyone has to try deal with that.but you deserve an answer, depends on your age too,it may of been a reasonthey havent said anything yet..dont second guess this, its too personal, but your family must be told that you need closure,Addictions are destructive enuf for the person, but just as painful for the family..if its really worys you, speak to a councillor...regards.

i think you're better off asking a medical professional rather than getting random answers from the internet,if your family won't tell you now, maybe there's a reason why, perhaps in time they will tell you the truth.
