I have found that if the dog is meant to be white, blue eyes do not dictate deafness. However, if it is uncommon like the boxer & bulldog to be all white, it's a pretty good bet they are deaf. Other breeds that are prone to deafness are the dalmation & jack russel terrier. I've had 2 deaf dogs, 1 due to age & 1 born that way. Once you get them trained, they are great pets. Not very good watch dogs though!
Since you are becoming so good at working with deaf dogs, maybe you should look into training other dog owners that find themselves in the same situation. Congrats for being such a good role model.

No,but deaf dogs can make good pets;you just have to train them with hand signals and get them used to being handled a lot,so they don't startle if someone touches them from behind. I was just at a pet show yesterday, and there was a deaf Great Dane, being handled by a 6 year old girl! The dog weighed 160 lbs.and was a very mellow, sweet dog.He wa s a blue merle with a lot of white and one blue eye. Also,I have a white, blue -eyed cat who is deaf. He's ornery, but he's very sweet otherwise. I hope you'll rescue the little boxer.

Many all white dogs and even some cats with blue eyes are deaf. Just like true Albino humans with blue eyes may be deaf. Odd eyed (1 blue and 1 green eye), white dogs, cats and humans may only be deaf in one ear.
I've met a man that was an Odd-eyed Albino, I asked if he was deaf in one ear and he was shocked that I knew LOL
Caucasion humans are not "white" ! Albinos are.

Not all, but a lot are. I own a white boxer and he is not deaf. The vet actually told me that the pigment in the skin actually helps the ear drums develop. My dog is all white, but he has an eye patch and little brown specks of color on his skin, but not the fur. People are coming across a lot more deaf white boxers b/c idiot backyard breeders are breeding whites to whites and making very genetically unhealthy dogs. Two all white boxers should never ever be bred. Not even one white to a normal color boxer. Its just wrong and unethical and should never ever be done. Regular colored boxers will occasionally throw a white. A lot of these puppies aren't born deaf b/c they were from colored parents and will most likely have some sort of pigment in their skin.

I have a beautiful white boxer and she is not deaf. In fact I have only met one white boxer who is deaf.
The cause of the deafness associated with the white colour is the absence of pigment cells in the inner ear resulting in a loss of sensory hair cells. But just because they are white doesn't mean they have this either.
I do suggest getting a hearing dog if you have a deaf dog inthe house. It make is it a little easier on the deaf dog.

Not all dogs born white with blue eyes are deaf, however, it is considered more than common. it does run in more breeds than others, such as dalmations, some huskies, german shepards, and bulldogs.
It is more common now, than before, due to irresponsible breeders, and to those who are "designer breeders".
the defect is, unfortunately, in 1 or 2 pups in a litter, or sometimes, VERY RARELY, in a whole litter, that the breeder had. These are pups that will most likely not have a good home, or will find themselves in a shelter due to these breeders' actions.
God bless those who can care for them, and give them a good home. it takes a lot of patience, and some people go to special training to learn to communicate and train them.

No. There is a genetic defect that causes deafness, blue eyes, white fur. If it is just a normal genetic makeup that gives dogs white fur and blue eyes they aren't deaf. If they have the defect they are.

No, of course not!
Are all blondes with blue eyes deaf?
Granted some aren't always the brightest, but no! (Haha, just kidding xD)
That's just a freakishly odd coincidence that both puppies you looked at were deaf...
