What does he like? Talk to him about that and about what you like. Its a big world, you have to find some common ground then run with it. Take a deep breath, don't be nervous and the conversation will happen. You obviously have a good scene of humor, I laughed when I read the posted twice! What does he do in his spare time? Find out and talk to him about it.....

I think it's a great idea to have some back-up questions in case there's that lull in the conversation...don't ya hate the lull? Here's where I'd say...What'd you do today? Did you grow up here? So what do you like to do for fun? Sports teams. Ever see them play in person? What have u done this summer?What music do you like to listen to? After he says his by the way, he may be nervous and forget to ask u the same question in return so that's when u can say I like____.I'd DEFINITELY steer away from How do u feel about relationships (and will u have my baby)? Nothing too deep like what are your aspirations cuz that will not only make it an uncomfortable call 4 him but he'll feel kinda like he's on a dating interview.Don't be afraid to have to go btw. I always used to wait 4 the guy 2 hang up and now if it's 20 mins. and I wanna go somewhere, "I should go to ____ but I'm glad we got a chance to talk."He already knows u like him by the fact that u call him.Also let him step up and plan when u 2 will hang up so u don't come across bad.He's a big boy.He should figure it out and if he's too shy the 1st phone call, don't add it in urself at the end out of desperation. Hang up. Let him call u and ask u out. The good news is that this guy likes you so just remember that when ur on the phone.It gets so much easier the more often u do it.Months from now u'll be a total pro. It's just a little awkward at first and no matter how smooth he is, he's feeling at least a little nervous too. :) Knock'em dead heartbreaker.

Ask him what he likes what he does on his spare time,what he treasures the most,his hobbies if he would teach you something he does and you like you will bond when he teaches you,let him feel in control but don't let him take you for granted.

be like so have you seen any good movies lately? are there any you wanna see? and then be like HEY i wanna see that too! make it lead to one of you asking if you two could see it together.
or lead into asking him what kinds of girls he likes.. that might be kind of awkward if you dont ask at the right time though.
just be kind of random.. but not too random.
ask what kind of music, ice cream, hobbies he likes.

well dont pretend to care if u dont but a good thing to talk about is stuff u guys have in common. maybe even somethin he's into. i dunno, i hate small talk to be honest. most ppl are that way. i think u on the other end of the line would be good enough to me. of course that's me............
