perhaps the religious experiences they have had in their life are painful and therefore they distance themselves from God/faith.

or maybe this is a way for people to justify being self centered. if a person perceives our world without God what reason do they have for having morals or thinking of the well being of others?

Well my friend, this is a tough question to answer straight foward. Some people find it hard to believe because they are raised in a home where believing in a "God" is either not allowed or simply not practiced. Some may find it hard because of how tragic society is, you cant watch the news without seeing some sort of hate or violence, so therefor some people ask "why would God do this to his/her children, his/her beautiful earth, his/her creation?" and next thing you know, they find it hard to believe. Or there are a lot of people out there like myself, who choose to stay open because of life experiences. I am Agnostic, I refuse to fully believe in a God, yet I refuse to deny him/her, I do not have the answers and I will not be a non-believer because the answers werent handed to me on a silver platter. Being Bi-Polar and Schizophrenic since the age of 14 and taking medication for the rest of my life, I struggle to believe in a God. I said my prayers before bed and in the morning every day since I could talk, but then I went through a ton of hardship at a young age. I went into the mental hospital, and came out confused and lost. At first I was athiest and was so mad at the world I would just say "there is no God", until I realized that theres no proof that God doesnt exist, and maybe he has a plan for me, I do not know. So there are many in my shoes that may have lost a parent, a sibling, possibly get raped, abused, or struggle with some sort of addiction and just all around lose faith, or just dont want to believe. There are thousands if not millions of reasons, I do not know them all but I believe everyone has their own faith and reasoning to believe or not believe and that it should be respected by others. Hope this was somewhat helpful my friend. Thanks a ton!!

-Jon

Same reason that people don't believe that we went o the moon. No real proof its all Hollywood. some people don't believe the world is round. Faith even works in science you have to believe someone is telling you truth and not doing some type of fraud on you. But there are people that believe Gilligan is still stuck on that Island. People believe what they want to. If its on the TV or news paper it has to be real, go figure people are insane

It's got a helluva lot to do with the lack of evidence.
I'm kinda big on having evidence before I allow myself to become enslaved to a concept.
Then of course there's all the stuff I've read that makes much more sense than the Theory of InvisibleSkyGuy.
An InvisibleSkyGuy that just appeared himself outa nothing, for no reason, waved a Harry Potter magic wand and made the universe and all the stuff in it?
Man, that's so much harder to believe than the simplicity of BigBang, Cosmology and Evolution, etc.

Having been a Christian, it was increasing study of the bible that gave me most problems on the specifically Christian understanding on God.
It became clear that Christianity was not, in essence, what it claimed to be.
That raised the question of a broader deity, but the nature of the world, and the universe, seems better accounted for without an interacting deity. (A distant indifferent one, Deism, in some respects is worse!)

Is it possible to view the existence of religion as a (purely) social and psychological phenomenon? Yes. The existence of convinced believers is not, of itself, convincing evidence of the existence of God.
Their lack of agreement as to the nature of God, is, if anything, a point againt a deity's existence.

(edit: Frosty: " to[o] proud to admit to a Maker... They choose to ignore the possibility of God..."
Nonsense, at least in my case.
I used to be a Christian, and that's the entry requirement.
No, seeing myself as a sinner before God according to the Christian Gospel *wasn't* the problem at all.
The question became whether the bible is right to assert that, a different question entirely.)

that would depend on your defination of God. many people are comfortable with their own idea of what God means to them.
it is people that demand that others believe in the same way they do or else that other person is not a 'true' believer.
really spiritual beliefs should be private between a person and their God.

Because they don't want to believe in God. When people live in an immoral way and find they have reason to fear the just judgement of God for their sins, they begin at first to wish that there was no God to punish them. Then, by degrees, they persuade themselves that there is no God. Finally, they set themselves to study for arguments to back their opinion. Jesus told us why so many people reject Him now and when He was on earth. He said in John 3:19 " And this is the condemnation, that light(speaking of Himself) is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil". With some people you are wasting your time giving them evidence for a God. You can give them all the evidence in the world and they still won't believe. Evidence isn't going to do any good because it is not an intellectual problem with them. They have a moral problem.

Because those whom are trying to spread God s word, are pressuring others and judgeing them using Fear and Anger.

When they spread fear and anger saying "you shall go to hell if you do not proclaim jesus as your savior" ,

They are acting out of a base of anger and fear, and spreading it.

So by doing so, they are making others think that God acts out of such too.

When in Truth, God is Love, and would NEVER do as most christians do.

God's Faith would show love, and love has no pressure.

no fear, no anger.

acceptance.

God is . He just exists , he doesnt force anything upon anyone.

Love is that. It always is , always was and always will be.

no pressure, upon others. It always IS there, knowing others will eventually return to IT.

This is the Faith of God.

Yet others, whom are pressuring others to join churches, don't show faith at all by pushing others to go.

They are revealing how little faith they have, and therefore repell others, whom have more faith then them.

Because everything about god sounds like a crazy story. Of course that's because it IS a crazy story written by humans to control other humans. It simply amazes me how many people buy into their religion (whatever it is) just because and never think about it. study it or find out anything else.
