I don't know - I have been telling the truth now for over 30 years, and it has worked fine for me.
What would happen?
Perhaps the greatest spiritual revival since the days of the apostles?

Friendships and romantic relationships would be extremely difficult to maintain.
The relationships between parents and children would also be strained, as many more parents would tell kids that there existence is an accident and many more kids would tell parents that their parenting skills suck.
Dentists would experience skyrocketing business, as the mouths that spewed truth got punched far more often.
The common people would revolt, after politicians reveal that all the important elections are rigged and fixed.
If people could not lie to themselves, depression would overtake a large portion of the population, as we could no longer use delusion to cope with life's crapiness.
Many more people would become recluses and loners because they can't stand to be around each other.

At first people would be offended to know the truth. Then, as they came to understand that people did not have malice toward them when they said negative things, that they were just stating a fact, they would relax. Life would, eventually become peaceful and everyone would have the option of choosing whether or not they wanted the consequences of, say buying insurance that is legal extortion. If everyone had fair choices and information, life would be peaceful for all, all the time.

You really do not want that, there is a level of social mis truth that society depends on. Every man knows that the answer to "does this make me look fat," is NO Every wife and girlfriend knows to make sure she Never EVER makes a disparaging remark about her partners sexual prowess. He is the best, its that simple. Read Moliere's The Misanthrope. Its a French Neoclassical comedy that explores exactly the situation you are talking about. People are hypocritical. They all say they want the truth, but only if its complimentary.

Well people would be saying "what????" and looking shocked a lot more, and their would be more violence and ironically more distrust, after hearing all the things politicians ect. do everyone will become insanely independent, putting trust in no higher source. Then people will stop having sex and the human race will thin out, weeding out the more unintelligent and creating a better world in the long run.

One word, chaos. Our world is held together by carefully crafted lies, that make us believe that reality exists. Any attempt to come to any real truth about existence has self destructed.
Science, for example, claims to be the beacon of truth. The problem is that science has only discovered that nothing is knowable. Read about particle physics and the theory of multiple universes, you'll soon see that the concrete beneath your feet is constructed of subatomic particles that flash in and out of existence.
Religion, has the problem of death. Since we cannot peirce the shrowd of death to see what happens after death, we cannot prove anything about what happens after death.
So enjoy the lies, because once the ride is over, you will experience the truth.

Getting people to tell the truth assumes they know what it is in the first place. A working and agreed upon definition of the word would be a good place to start.

It would change the order of the world - insurance companies will change their policies, politicians will change their ways and strategies, it will result to a happy family. The lawyers and judges will find it easy to arrive to a good decision, etc.

Along the lines of everyone else-it would be a disaster. However, truth is subjective. You can hear two different accounts of something from two different people and both will believe they are telling the truth. Your truth is not my truth and vise versa. It could be very interesting, though. I think I would like to see it someday.

Just for one day....
Let's imagine that President Bush, and everyone who is part of the White Hose and the Presidential cabinet and their support were to be given a truth serum...and they had to go to a press conference????
Can you imagine?
Mr. President....
Are we in Iraq because of Oil?
Why haven't we put more emphasis into capturing Osama Bin Ladin?
Why don't you want the military to get out of Iraq?
Did anyone tamper with the voting machines in the Presidential election in 2000?
