you know the fat that comes from bacon when cooked. Well I know some people who keep it and sctually store it in cute containers labeled 'bacon grease'. What do they use it for so I too can perhaps incoporate this flavor one day.

We grew up with the grease can in the refrigerator. Mom and dad used to use it when they would need grease to fry something. Mom used to put a little in with the green beans to give them a bacon flavor, not a lot, just enough to flavor it. You can also use it to fry eggs in, fried eggs are really good fried in bacon grease instead of butter. Hope I helped!

I keep my bacon fat refrigerated in a covered heat proof container. (Mine happens to be Pyrex bowl with rubberized plastic lid.) I use the bacon fat instead of oil or butter for lots of things. Hash browns...cooking eggs...wax or green beans...browning meats, but not poultry. I think you get the idea. It imparts a different flavor than butter or oil.

Hope you enjoy it too!

I use it to season any dried beans I prepare and my green beans. I'm sure there are a couple more things I season with it but that's all I can think of right now. The next time you cook beans, try butting a teaspoon of bacon grease in it. It'll surprise you.

You can use it instead of butter of olive oil, it adds flavor to everything but remember it will add a smoked bacon flavor so watch out. Actually, everything tastes better with bacon....go for it!

My grandmother on my father's side would do this. She would add the grease to everything from her Bean Soup made out of Black Eyed Peas to her Collard Greens. She would use it to grease the pan for her Cornbread.

mmmmmmmmmmmmm bacon fat!!!!!!!!
Bacon fat makes a great oil when heated for searing, browning or sautes. It has more flavor than butter or margerine and can enhance many dishes. Use your judgement though, it doesn't always work in place of butter or olive oil.
