wow that is so young to have this problem! what is causing the fuild to build up like that? usually it's a heart condition, at least in older dogs it is. you personally should not try to take the fluid out, if you don't know what you're doing you can cause serious damage. to give you an honest answer i would like to know what the vet thinks is causing the fluid? a drug called lasix can remove the fluid but it will not cure or fix what is making it build up in the abdomen. you have a very sick puppy on your hands. i would follow the vet advice and return if not getting any better, and possibly seek the opinion of a specialist. your pup is going to need specialized care. ascites is a condition, but it is one that is caused by another condition. what is causing the ascites? that's what needs to be treated. good luck, poor little puppy, glad you are trying everything you can, he's a lucky little guy to have found you!

What is it that is causing the ascites,as it is a symptom in itself and not a disease.Does the puppy have a liver problem or an infection in the abdomen? This is all I can think of that would cause ascites in such a young dog. I wish you luck in treating your puppy successfully. Here is a link for you.

It depends on what underlying condition has caused the ascities. There are several things which can cause asceties. The vet who is treating your dog is the one who can best determine what is the proper treatment. If you feel that you pet may not bet getting the best treatment possible, there is no reason not to get a second opinion from another vet.
I wish you the best of luck.
