I've been observing many incidents of aggressive atheism and decided a newer stronger word was necessary so I have created a word to describe the type of Atheist who's not just hostile to belief in God but is also actively opposed to any belief in the divine, the paranormal, and the supernatural.
ANTITHEIOIST
Its a combination of the Greek prefix Anti and the Greek Adjective THEIOS usually translated as divine or supernatural with the -ism(os) and the -ist suffix.
So the next thing you're in a discussion with the sort of person who describes any believer or any degree of belief in the supernatural as deluded etc you now have something new to call them ... Antitheioist!!!
You have my permission and encouragement to spread and use this word widely.
Getting back to the question
What do you think of Antitheioists?
Not just Atheists but ANTItheioists!

I posted mini essays about this word in a Yahoo Group and another non yahoo blog so no one had better try claiming copyright.
Glad to see some of the atheists got the point!

Hmm, nifty term. I do see a difference between a mere atheist, and the kind of person who yells and condemns another atheist for owning a coffee mug with their zodiac sign.
I would have to consider myself an atheist who is not an "antitheoist". I run into plenty of them, being somebody who adheres to a non-theistic religion.
Here are my thoughts on them:
I get the impression that most of them became atheists solely because they were disgusted by Christianity, and assumed atheism was the only alternative. They then go on the assumptions that all other religions operate in the same way as western religions do. I've also found that they often can't see the beauty of symbolism or organized ceremony in and of itself (even if it has a secular context).
As with any type of proselytizer, they get annoying real fast. Even if they seem to be the "enemy of my enemies" at times, they're still NOT my friends. Again, I am an atheist, but I'd sooner date a theist than somebody who's just going to condemn me for serving them coffee in my Pisces coffee mug.

On here they don't. I mean, it's not like we are on here taking some sort of spelling or grammar test. It annoys me whenever people pick apart questions or answers that have spelling or grammatical errors. Now on a professional document or something of that ilk, yes, spelling errors bother me. If something is that important then someone should take the time to do spell check.

Every group has extremists and radicals in it.
It is incorrect to single out just atheists. For each radical atheist there is a radical Christian or radical agnostic or radical something else.
I know that it is difficult to look past the angry or hateful answers on here sometimes. They come from every direction. You just have to try. Also remember that you can't judge an entire group by what a handful of them say.
As far as what I think...I think that ALL the radicals and extremists need to chill out. The only thing that they are convincing me of is the amount of hate in this world.

Well, I was going to hold this in, but since you made up a new word for people willing to think, I'll toss it out there...
Maybe along with your little made up word, atheists can have their own symbol: The Logic Stick. Simply put, you take something that looks like a small letter 't' and knock the 2 small sides off of it. By doing this, you now have a stick that you can smack idiots who refuse to look at the world for what it is, and hopefully instill some logic in them...

Anti-theism is a more accurate word for what you describe, even though they are nearly the same. At least in traditional English, your word I guess is Greek, so which ever.
"'opposes and actively antagonizes" = Anti
"the belief in God'' = Theism

I love them, as I would my own brothers and sisters. (They are not technically anti- or a- theists necessarily, but agnostics, fallen away Catholics, heretics, skeptics and heathens. I don't think I've actually come across a true atheist yet. Maybe I have, but I didn't notice.)
They cannot give offense unless I take offense.

I love Atheists who keep their religion to themselves and respect me for mine.
I go with or even marry one.
We are all individuals and we're not going to all think alike, not ever so we might as well respect one another for the good things like minding our own business in such things as religions.

Websters will now proclaim they got this word in public and can now SELL it to you.
I looked up atheists in my dictionary and couldn't find it. Does that mean THEY don't EXIST ?

I prefer the term "fundie" or "extremist" which can be used to describe the radicals in ANY religion or ideology.
And the answer is: I think they all give a bad name to the kind and reasonable majority of that faith or ideology

Like most words people cannot pronounce, I'm sure this one will take off overnight.
Hmm.... what's a word for angry, judgmental Christians? I think it starts with an "H"...
