Defiantly consider Firefox (ill abbreviate as FF). Its much better than Internet Explorer (ill abbreviate as IE)
It is much more secure and customizable. It has the same tabbed browsing as IE7, but is better programmed. The tabs idea was taken from FF and put into IE7. Additionally, It has amazing plug-ins like Adblock Plus (never see another ad on a website again) and many more customizable features.
If you like IE6 better than IE7, I bet you will love Firefox.
BUT IF YOU WISH TO RETURN TO THE IE WORLD:
You can uninstall IE7 from control panel and then download and install IE6 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1e1550cb-5e5d-48f5-b02b-20b602228de6&DisplayLang=en
But seriously give FF a try.

you can uninstall internet explorer 7, its done exactly the way you uninstall any other program
start -> control panel -> add or remove programs
the uninstall will take you back to your prior install of IE.
As far as browsers go, there are other viable options out there such as mozilla firefox, opera, etc.
My own preference is for mozilla firefox, though you will notice some differences between the two in terms of feel, and there are some web applications that will not open in mozilla. You gain the use of tabbed browsing with firefox, which is a feature i happen to love. Firefox is also a more secure browser, due to how it handles activeX.

for me, IE7 is awesome, you just need to know on how to use it properly, anyways, if you insist not to use IE7 and go back and use IE6 instead, heres how to do it, go to control panel, choose ad/remove programs, look for Windows update IE7, highlight it and remove it from your system, it will automatically restore your previous IE version.. then try to restart you pc for the changes to take effect..you'll then be getting your IE6 again...
for an alternate browser, i use Mozilla fireFox because its cool, it can as well displayed all you websites in just the same window, you'll need to add a tab, and also, whenever you restart your system, your previous visited pages are still there if you want them to still appear once you pull up Firefox browser..

Well, there's Mozilla Firefox
http://www.mozilla.org/
or Opera
http://www.opera.com/
or even Safari
http://www.apple.com/safari/
I believe there is an option to uninstall IE7, but I don't know it personally.
