I LOVE cats so i play with them a lot. And my family says each time i interact with a cat i either make it mad or change the way it is. so they believe that i made my cat the devil. But all i want is to pet him without him hissing or biting me. I need advise on how to calm him or be able to pet him.

Well his surgery (nutered and de-clawed) was done as a kitten and it has long passed that year. Yet he is still pissy and hisses any time a human nears him. Even if that human is just randomly walking by. I need to find a way that i can approuch him and calm him down, safly.

I.m pretty sure your cat thinks YOU ARE THE DEVIL. You cut off his manhood (understandable) and his fingers at the knuckles (NOT OKAY). How would you feel? He'll probably run away.

If he's still recovering from major surgery the last thing he wants is to be bothered to the point of having to get mad about it.

A hiss means stop it. Biting means you didn't listen to the hiss. Cats need personal space too, and you shouldn't be pushing him so hard for interaction.

Since he's responding to YOU, you need to change how you interact with him. He will stay calmer if you don't push him so hard. No physical contact if he gets uncomfortable is a good start. Play from a distance (sliding paper slips sideways in front of his feet for him to smack, pulling string past him, etc.). Cats don't want to be force petted, so you'll have to slow down on things and see how he wants to be treated. You can't force a cat to like something it's finding irritating.

how long ago did you have these procedure done?

cats recover from the neutering almost immediately.. less than 24 hours. Declawing can take up to a month before the pain goes away and they may not ever get used to it.

make sure you're using proper litter for his paws, make sure they aren't getting infected.. and just have patience.. he'll come around eventually, just try hanging out in the same room and talking to him.

once it's been awhile, pet him more and more..if he continues to bite you, tap him on the nose and tell him 'no' .. it really does work.. as least for mine it did!

Well, declawing is a bad idea. As it takes away they're defense, it is also VERY painful to them, and can also become infected from the litter box, and become even more painful. Can you imagine having your finger and toe nails cut out? Yes, that alone is terrorising, same goes for a cat. I know people who had that done to they're cat, and the cat learned to hate them. Chances are, your cat is in pain and just not in the mood for to much. Best thing to do now is, leave kitty alone and when he's feeling better, and is in the forgiving mood, he'll let you know. For now, watch for infection, show him love, other than that, leave him alone.

give him some time and a nice fluffy bed to lay in. hes in a lot of pain right now. make a trail of kitty treats and do your own thing for a while. another thing you might want to consider is a calming product that you pour drops at a time into his water bowl and make him relax a little bit. you can get it at petsmart and other pet stores but thats only for extreme measures and really shouldnt be used every day. sprinkle a little catnip around his bed and toss in a feathery sparkly toy. its probably a good thing if you just leave him alone right now and only pet him when he comes to you, dont go to him unless you need to.

I think declawing him, made him the ''devil''. I'd be pretty pissed if I woke up with not only a sore rear end, but really sore feet.

Neutering has a cause. Declawing.....it doesn't. Leave the poor cat alone because he's probably in a bit of pain right now.

If you are 'rough-housing' with the cat, it will learn that it is O.K. to bite. If you want to avoid this, use a toy when you play with it. A great way to get physical and avoid turning it into a 'devil' is to use a blanket. My cat loves to crawl under the sheets in my bed, and I get him all 'riled up', but he knows that if there is no sheet, then he isn't supposed to bite.

Gee, you sliced off his testicles, and amputated his fingers. Wow. Pretty horrible, I would run away from you, too.

The neutering I understand, ampuation instead of weekly clipping his nails, I do not.

put your underpants back on before you pet him......you are probably making him nervous.
