Ok, I have the habit of masturbating, and I know it dissapoints God. I keep asking for forgiveness and for help to not do it anymore. Yet, I keep doing it. I feel...oh whats the right word..."uneasy" asking forgiveness again because I'm afraid that I'll do it again and that God will be even more dissapointed in me. Someone please tell me how I can sincerely ask God for forgivness and end this habit.

By the way, if someone gives me a smartass answer here, I'll report abuse.

The only sin that God cannot forgive is not believing. Everyone sins, everyday, this is no different.

My Brother,
I've never answered a question like this before so I needed to research my answer. The Bible does not say anything about masturbation or it being wrong. What it does talk about is lust and temptation. It isn't the act that you are doing that is sinful but the path that it takes. There is something that starts the mechanism...is it seeing a girl in the street...watching programs that aren't fit for a child of God like yourself. Examine what is really tempting you...know the signs...once you do you will be able to pray that the Lord may deliver you from these situations. Don't pray to the Lord that you not masturbate anymore...pray that you may recognize the signs and have the strength to turn away from them before the sin of lust is consumed. Pray that you realize how strong you already are because you ARE His child and He will always love you.

"No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it" (1 Corinthians 10:13).

He WILL offer you a way out because He has power over the devil that is enticing you!

"If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body, than for your whole body to go into Hell" (Matthew 5:30).

DON'T GET ANY SMART IDEAS!!!!
The reason why I quote this is because once you realize what it is that starts the mechanism of temptation in you, separate yourself from it---if it's a movie that you have...throw it away..If it's a magazine....throw it away.

Remember that the Lord not only forgives those who REPENT, He will equip you with whatever it takes to strike that demon that is afflicting you...He doesn't turn anyone away...He won't leave you when you call out to Him --Sin is the one thing that He cannot tolerate--therefore He won't condemn you....he will help you through it and out of it if you put the matter in His hands.

There's a cool site that I found and I really like it. Its called e-sword.net. Its basically an interactive bible for your computer. Whenever something is troubling me, I go to the e-sword (which has a built in concordance) and it helps me find just the right passages (bible story) to help me sort thru whatever is troubling me. I am certain that it will also contain many passages on temptation, sin of the flesh as well as forgiveness. Just remember that when God created us, he created us in his image. He knows we are weak and that is why he forgives us when we ask for the forgiveness. The first step is recognizing that you are weak and that he is strong. Find your strength in his word. When you find the urge to masturbate, put on a christian music cd, read your bible, remove yourself from whatever is taunting that behavior. If you are watching a movie with a lot of sex or nudity in it and it starts to make you feel "horny" turn off the movie...or if at the theater "walk out" . No one is ever so strong that they can just QUIT masturbating all together. We are sexual beings by nature and God knows that "he created us remember"? So the next time you feel the urge coming on to do the deed and you really don't want to...change your thinking...go for a jog, take a cold shower, sing hymns, whatever you can do that will make you stop thinking about that act. Its a choice and that's all...God isn't going to punish you if you have to ask forgiveness 20 times in one day. Just check out the site ok and don't be so hard on yourself, you're only human.

Hmmmmm I thought you already were reporting abuse.;-)

Seriously though, I've read the Bible many times over and spanking off just isn't on the no-no list.

There was a character called Onan who, according to Jewish tradition, was suppose to get his dead brothers widow pregnant. The story goes that God killed Onan for 'spilling his seed on the ground' instead of putting it....er... where it could do some good.

Now I do get that your seed is being un-utilized, but trust me, the disappointed widow is required before the Almighty gets upset.

JFTR. You really don't have a choice about 'spilling your seed' Even if you stop masturbating, you will ejaculate in your sleep every 3 weeks or so.

Got it. You can drop your load someplace neat, or you can unconsciously spray it on you sheets or PJs.

Personally, I'd pick the former, but if intense self discipline in the avoidance of pointless guilt is your thing, by all means - get sticky.

First and foremost this is a difficult situation. When I was younger I also thought that masturbation was a sin. However, God made the human body and all of it's sensitivities. I strongly believe that unless you are hurting someone or being malicious there is nothing wrong with what you are doing. It is a natural part of life and you are certainly not alone. Please do not feel like you are going to hell. If you really want to stop then I suggest you do what my friend did in a similar situation. Everytime you want to do it go on a run, boxing, or push ups. Keep your mind focused on something else. Hope this helps.

Hello Vince. We, as Christians, all struggle with various temptations and sins. If you are a true born-again believer you will have constant fights against your flesh (Galatians 5:16-17). Also, Christians stumble in many ways (James 3:2). The fact that you are asking this question and seriously concerned about God's forgiveness to you demonstrates that you have the Holy Spirit living within you.

I assume someone in spiritual authority told u committing the sin of Onan is frowned upon by God or u read it. U know the one about the bear in the woods but this is different. As humans we are geared to feel good. We are also creatures of habit. So, if u did it once, u will probably do it again. God does not stop U. Only U can stop yourself.

However, you may be in need of a partner...and be embarresed to ask. Welcome to the game of Love, Waiting and Self denial.

You may be in for a fight and a reward. If you stop, you may experience the Wet Dream. Stop yourself and discover the rewards from beyond in your own time

Please don't make threats. God doesn't care for that either. Now, God can forgive because he's a kind and loving god. Ask for forgiveness for the masturbating that you've done in the past and ask for forgiveness for the masturbating you're going to do in the future so that you don't have to keep going back and forth w/ him on this. I would also express to him that in no way should he take this apology as insincere due to the lack of ongoing repetition.

My opinion is that masterbating is not a sin. because your not really doing anything wrong and not hurting or affecting anybody else but your self. but i also believe that if you feel sorry for something then you should apologise even if what you did is right or wrong. if asking god for forgiveness will help you than so be it.

oh, and there is no specific way of asking god for forgiveness, just say that you really enjoy *that* and that you feel sorry for doing it. just ask him to please forgive you for the sin that you have done.

also, god made your penis for pleasure and to possibly create another human being, he knew when he created you that the most wonderful felling on the planet would want to be seeked. sorry, this is an edit (this paragraph) and i did not look at the other answers, i just forgot to put that.

Masturbation is a difficult topic to discuss, and often, it's even more difficult to remove from our life. One of the elements that make masturbation so difficult to discuss, is that it's often covered by a layer of secrecy and shame.

Despite these difficulties, masturbation can be conquered. If your desire is to change,

God can heal and bring restoration.God has given us a conscience to help us know what is right or wrong. If we feel guilty about something, it is very likely that act is a sin. We can ask for God’s help in keeping our mind pure (Philippians 4-6-8). Refuse to take part in any activity that even hints of sexual immorality. We can seek help from a pastor, counselor, or Online Recovery Program

Honestly, every guy masturbates and I don't think it dissapoints God at all. Unless of course it is getting in the way of more important things (that would be an addiction) like going to work out or going to church, whatever. Why do you think God dissaproves of this? What are you doing that is against the Bibles teachings? Are you harming anyone or their ability to worship God including yourself? If you are you need to seek help from a phsychiatrist but all i think this is is you getting all worked up over nothing.

Good luck!
