Ok, as you may know I am Pro Choice, I think that the choice lies with the parents Not the Government (or rather the Church)

But I am Anti-Abortion when it comes to people (Like my cousin) Using Abortion as a form of "Birth Control" I am Sickened by the thought of Her Aborting 3 of her would be children because she doesn't want to take the pill.

My question is "What are your views on women using Abortion as a form of Birth Control?"

I agree with you that it is a disgraceful thing.

To me, though, being Pro-Choice means that I don't have to approve of her decision, but supporting her right to make that decision is what protects that same right for those who have more "acceptable" reasons for choosing an abortion.

I doubt that "abortion as birth control" is as prevalent as the anti-choice movement would like us to believe.

I have never been in a position to have to consider abortion thank goodness. As a form of birth control it leaves a lot to be desired and I cannot think there are many women who would use it that way. Surely her GP would put a stop to it. There are many scenarios where I would not hesitate to agree with abortion - rape, illness, perhaps anyone unable to cope with an already too large family.
Your cousin does know there are other forms of contraception, not just the pill? The best would surely be to get sterilised.

Some may be surprised to find out that many in the church actually believe that too... that there are special circumstances where abortion is acceptable.

The idea confuses me--abortion is "Murder" in most situations, but in these special circumstances it isn't? Either you are for it or you are against it... that's the only way I can see it.

My issue with abortion is that it is controlled by the government (not the church) and not by the medical community. What business does a lawyer or accountant or businessman have deciding complex medical questions. My religious beliefs aside, if the medical community as a whole came to a consensus as to where in gestation the fetus becomes its own entity, I would have little choice but to accept their decision.

Since I can at this very moment show you four wonderful people that would LOVE to adopt a baby, it makes me a bit nauseous. So many kind and loving people in this world would do almost anything to have a child and cannot. Why can't women like you described see that they could be the answer to someone's prayers, just by deciding to let their child be adopted instead of aborted.

Now, as for my actual feelings about abortion... I too am pro-choice. I think it is my (and my husband's) choice. I would NEVER be able to choose abortion, but I also don't think I should be allowed to tell anyone else what they should do.

i think i am on your side. i agree that is the woman's choice and the church nor government should not interfere.

but also like you, i don't agree using abortions as a form of birth control is right either.

i agree for abortion to be use under the right circumstances. perhaps like an unwanted preganancy or pregnancy by rape or maybe the child was going to disfigured or deformed.

i see a woman in life having maybe one or two abortions, the most. but when she is having four or five, yes she is abusing her right to terminate.

i guess i am in the middle because on one hand i want to say yes it is your choice, but then on the other i want to control how far you can go with that choice.

i am so confused.

I,am very ANTI ABORTION, but here goes my answer. i think that abortion for control of birth control is pure and 1000per cent murder. The only time that women should have an abortion is when the fetus has been diagnosed as having severe birth defects, or the women has been raped, or that it can be life threatening. It has nothing to do with the government of any country or church for that matter. Well your cousin should be court ordered to be permently sterilised.

I believe that ultimately it is the person's choice of wether or not to have an abortion whatever the reason, they are the ones who have to live with themselves if they choose to use abortion as a form of birth control.

I think it is extremely vile and heinous. My stance on abortion in general is that it should be up to the individual but in relevance to the situation. A woman having an abortion as a means of birth control is a lot different than a woman having an abortion because life or death medical complications.

I think that is what bothers me the most about abortions. The statistics bear out the fact that most women who have abortions will have more than one in their lifetime.

Very few abortions happen due to rape, incest, or to protect the life of the mother. Most are because a woman is not ready to care for a chld.

While I don't want Roe V Wade overturned, I feel we need to teach people better ways to prevent pregnancies.

Abortion? Oh boy, here we go again. I think I'm going to "abort" myself from this thread. I suspect it's gonna be a looooong one.

But if you want an answer:

Are there women who really do use abortion AS a form of birth control? As in, something they do several times in one year? Considering the costs and risks involved when there are so many other birth control alternatives, I doubt it.
