Just about every school I drive by, they have a sign that states No Trespassing, why would they be so against it? The only exception around where I live is this Catholic School I went to for Grade School.

Is there a liability issue or do the schools who have the signs have past troubles with vandals damaging their property at night? I just don't understand why its such an issue for some but not others like the Catholic grade school which has no signs about it.

It is really about liability, vandalisms, and break ins. Signs like those have been up for years. Anybody can sue anybody for any reason in the US so some kids falls and scrapes his elbow the family can turn around and try to sue. Schools get vandalized quite often and it is usually after hours. Broken windows and grafitti and what not.

Some schools don't feel the need so they don't put them up. while some schools have increased their awareness and securities since 9/11 that is not the primary reason for all the no tresspassing signs.

Most schools have a budget of nothing, and are self insured or use a pool approach to insurance. A broken window or graffiti that needs to be covered requires funds they don't have. What is the reason to be an advocate for trespassing? it is against the law.

Schools do not want people to enter their premises without valid reason for security purposes to stop gunmen from shooting students.
