that's family issues, sorry to say. nothing will make your father stop putting you down. he probably feels the same, that he couldn't live up to his father, or never pleased his father, or something. people put others down when they feel the other might be better than them. will it make your father shut up? no. will it get rid of your desire to prove you are better than someone who has sunk to the level of insulting their own child? no. you need to realize he's sunk so low that he is insulting his own son. and that no matter what he has done in life, that, by far, is the worst mistake he as a parent could ever make. your attitude toward him shows he is a failure as a parent. but your best bet is to try and keep him out of your life as much as you can. don't let him get you down. do what YOU want, and be as good as you can be. strive to be the best, but not just so your father will shut up. you will be miserable if you do it that way. if you already have children, then be a better father to them than he was to you. if youdon't, then plan to be. and remember, themeasure of a man isn't what he accomplishes. it's how much he's loved. and apparently, you don't love your father, and a man not loved by his son isn't much of a man. make yourself into a much loved man.

not really - He probably feels that he is a failure for not winning 5 or more Nobel prizes and turn that sentiment towards you.

There isnt nothing more common than the need to feel "special" but the irony is, we, each one of us, are already "special". I would say, "Yep Im a failure - so what? It isnt the end of my world and I hope it isnt the end of yours."

Well. I don't know if he will ever think anyone his equal. Sounds like a smart *** and pusher.

You can solve the problem by showing him this email that could be a junkie instead to get back at him.

You can't please everyone and some people can't be pleased at all. You could spend your life hunting for your father's approval or you could live your life, your way, and feel fulfilled. Find meaningful work that you love. Your father is only human and can't see past his own issues to you, his son. I wouldn't recommend ending your relationship with him, but try to see him through new eyes.

Your father thinks you are a failure in life. You are asking all of us what to do. So you are still a failure.

Hmm i think that how your father reacts to your decisions and or life choices have nothing to do with how you do. he can think all he want. as long as you make a life for yourself
