It's in our nature, but it's something we can work on.

IF you want the Freudian answer, its that mankind is indeed an animal and that we have a need for competition to get ahead that is ingrained deeply in our being. We will always find a way to compete with each other no matter what the circumstaces. We subconciously see others as a threat to us. It sucks but its how we are wired. It takes great mental control and much self confidence and security for us to get along and I'm sure that you have people that you dont get along with. Its not contempt so much as fear and feeling threatened. I hope that helps. We as humans are capable of much compassion and brotherhood, but also of great evil. Its all in the choices you make and its hard to do the right thing. Otherwise everyone would do it. Ok I think i just confused myself so I'm gonna end here. Hope it helped.

It is Babel's disease. Not really, but before people had more than one language people communicated more with each other. After that event communication dropped. Besides, if there was no conflict or temptation in this world, we as Christians wouldn't have a reason to tell others about Jesus.
People naturally have had contempt. In the days of Adam and Eve, They had two sons at that time when Cain got jealous of Abel and killed him. That was the beginning of peoples attitudes toward one another today.

Its a lovely thought Lacy, would be nice if it were possible.
But when people kill, oppress and hurt others because of their beliefs, those people believe that they're superior than the rest of the human race, and there can be no balance.
See what I mean?

Maybe if everyone kept their beliefs to themselves and didn't mess with others, despite the differences, then it would probably bring us closer as a race, or at least help resolve the major problems so we can deal with the rest as they come...but the egos of humans are much too large to accomplish this.

I hate the things other people do. I hate things Ive done. I hate the things I do sometimes.

Humanity is all of one essence much like God, but not all of one person. People sin against me and I against them. So I guess it is most reasonable to say I hate myself the most because I know what I am and under my own power and wisdom apart from God, can do nothing about it. In fact it is that very independent nature from God that keeps me from him, it doesnt help.

So I have a choice, I resign myself to sin and hell, or accept Gods grace in Jesus Christ and become something different. What have you chosen in life? The human race faces this challenge everyday and many are in denial. This is why the earth is so cruel, because that is the heart of men.

Humans are tribal. This goes all the way from races/nations down to cliques in school. The people who are not in our tribe are not as smart, cute, strong, rich, cool, whatever as we are. This helps us feel better about ourselves and gives us a common bond that we share and will defend. Somehow it's built into our brains. It's just how we are.

You can fight it, but it's very difficult.
