we are going through a cycle........we are contributing to the global warming(climate change), but it's probably only 1%......the scientist says we are eventually going to lead up to a new mini ice age...they can't make up their minds -.- ;; i guess it's confusing people.........sooo....type your thoughts! =D

I can't believe all the delusional answers to this question. The fact of the matter is that our planet has gone through many warming and cooling periods over millions of years before man even existed. I ask all of the Al Gore disciples what caused global warming way back then???? Are they aware that other planets in our solar system are experiencing higher average temperatures. With these facts in mind it doesn't take a rocket scientist to come to the obvious conclusion that the sun is the major culprit in all this not man. Unfortunately there are way too many fools out there, especially on this website....

A couple points to start out with...

1. While CO2 only accounts for a small percentage of the greenhouse gasses in nature, it is the one greenhouse gas that we humans have caused to measurably increase in the atmosphere. And make no mistake, when it comes to systems in nature 1% of something can be hugely significant.

2. About scientists not being able to make up their minds whether or not we're heading into an ice age or if the earth is warming...looking at trends over the last 1000 years or so, the earth WAS headed into an ice age. There were fluctuations, but when you average these fluctuations out the earth has been on a clear cooling trend for several centuries. But in the last 50 years this cooling trend has made a clear and abrupt reversal. The earth is now definitely getting warmer at a surprising rate.

This means we have two facts to consider:

1. Humans have increased the level of CO2 in the atmosphere as a result of industrial activity. And...

2. The earth was getting cooler until last century, when for some reason the earth started getting warmer.

Are the two related? Most scientists think so, which is why human activity is being blamed for global warming.

Sure there's room for debate about whether or not human activity is responsible, but the earth is definitely getting warmer and atmospheric CO2 levels have definitely increased. These are facts, plain and simple. Anybody that argues the earth is not getting warmer is simply ignorant. If you're going to argue that humans are not responsible for said warming, you at least must account for these two facts in your arguement.

Unfortunately, most experts in the field agree that climate change is happening. Check out the reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
Exactly what changes are coming is difficult to predict. Weather forecasting based on historical data is difficult enough and there is no historical data for the changes we are going to experience in the future.
It doesn't matter whether we have caused this problem or only contributed to the trigger events, but there is considerable evidence that we appear to have played a significant part. By all means question the validity of the arguments both for and against our involvement, but check the latest available scientific evidence, not the propaganda, and make your own mind up.
Many people will be unable to accept that they personally have made a small contribution to the problem, particularly in the 'Western' nations, and either try to ignore the problem or discredit and distort the evidence. In doing so they may weaken the resolve required to both reduce our contribution and adapt to the changes.

The science says the current global warming is NOT a natural cycle--and virtually all of it is caused by human activity. And nobody (legitimate) is saying we are heading into an ice age--only that the climate chaneges could make some areas colder, even though the overally temperature is getting hotter.

Um, I don't think Al Gore took it too far. He was inspiring (or scaring) people into taking action against this problem that will affect us all either now or in the future. Unlike the Earth being able to sustain itself for another thousand our so years, Humans and animals unfortunetelly have a hell of a lot shorter time to live. Earth can adapt, but we could die out from this. Our humanity is at stake. We forget that we are not invisible and that being at the top of the pyramid makes us the leaders. No one else will clean up our mess and not doing at least something small to help our earth that has so graciously sustained our life would be selfish and stupid.

SOMEONE needs to watch 'An Inconvienient Truth'

global warming WILL be the cause of the next ice age, once us humans melt greenland (the most recent ice age was caused by the melting of the region that is now canada)

humans most likely ARE the reason global warming is happening so fast, although it will be hard to change our ways with the amount of people on earth. 50 years age, there were half as many people as there are today.

did you know that 10% of all humans that have ever existed in all of time are alive today? and we all pollute with our trash, cars, nuclear waste ;), etc.

An inconvenient truth;

12) Archaeologist recently discovered a historic
village at the bottom of the English channel
dating some 8K years ago from a time when
England and Europe were connected.
The theory is that the ice caps melted and
flooded the region, forming what is now the
English channel.
Since "MAN" is the cause of global warming
because of our consumption of fossil fuels,
and there were no cars 8k years ago, were
we feeding the mastodons oil?

People are the reason, We are the ones polluting, putting emissions in the air, I don't think our planet will be a ice age I think it will burn because of the hole getting larger in the ozone the ozone is the only thing keeping the sun from cooking us now.

Typical human response....destroy anything and everything that gets in the way for our own selfish needs..and then deny that we ever had anything to do with it!

Edit: the thumbs down proves my point..another selfish human outraged I would call humans anything but perfect!

Hmmm...

That was arguably the stupidest, most ridiculous statement I've heard in a while.

Did you just say that human's aren't the cause of global warming?

Hmm... Let's go down the list of some human-initiated causes, just off the top of my head.

Cars
Factories
Pollution
Stupid Presidents
Stupid Presidents not signing bills that prevent some of the issues
Need I say more?
