I don't think I've ever been asked out by a guy before.
I have always taken the initiative in asking a guy out. I have dated literally over 100 men in the span of 2 1/2 years via dating sites and through other friends or school.. I have always been the one to spot some guy and start talking to him and ask him out on a date.
I was always wondering why guys never asked me out. Men find me to be attractive. It seems that they were just shy and fear rejection like yourself. But I always wanted men to ask me out. I'm sure that there are many other women like myself who really want a guy to ask them out but since the guys are all shy they have to be the ones to ask guys out.
If you ask a girl out, whether or not she takes the bait, she will most likely be flattered and be nice to you.
I have a boyfriend now but if a guy were to be polite and ask me out I would be flattered and would tell him so, but also politely reject :p
But if I were single, I would go out with him! (unless he were really creepy or something)
Well good luck!

This is a very good question but get use to it because for ages it's always been the mans role to ask the girl out! They except it. It really does suck but just get in the mindset that you know that's the way society has been built. Your a man so for one you shouldn't be as nervous (which is totally politically incorrect). You should save the damsel in distress and it's tradition for a guy to be chivalry and court the girl (as unfair as it seems). So just ask her out okay! It's like the government no matter what you say or try to do it won't change for nothing!

It is NOT always the guy's job to ask but it does make you more attractive if you have a sense of self confidence. Young girls are more likely to wait for the guy to make the first move because they are shy and insecure. As girls are brought up, they are taught that some guy will sweep them off their feet so it is just expected that you will make the first move. As for rejection; it's just the word no...it only hurts your pride and there's always another girl to ask who might say yes.

Thats just how its been, I mean its 2007 now and thats not ALWAYS the case. Ive been asked out several times by women, not to brag or anything :D But yeah some women are just as afraid of rejection as some men. There aint really anything special you can do just have more confidence in yourself. Be cool but not cold confident but not cocky.

That's what a lot of people assume. I ask guys out all the time and I'm really shy. When I ask guys or girls out I always have a friend stand somewhere near by, so if it goes bad I can cry on her shoulder and if it goes good we can jump around screaming.

it's not really the guy's job--but for a lot of men, if they never asked a girl out--they'd never go on a date...cuz not a lot of girls will ask a guy out.
overcoming your fear? do it, and do it often. be casual. don't ask them on a date per se--just ask if they'd like to hang out sometime--or even better--have an event in mind. ask her if she'd like to try out this restaurant you've been meaning to try out...or ask her if she wants to meet you for coffee some time. (better yet, skip the some time and have a day and time in mind)
hope that helps.
you're just gonna have to grow some skin.

Because most men are afraid of an independant/secure woman. And if a woman asked a guy out, most men would be highly offended and run screaming b/c they consider that to be rude from a woman.

A guy likes to be in control of things. Boost your confidence. It's the sexiest thing a guy can show a girl.

Some people believe its the manly thing to do because it shows how confident they are.
But I don't see anything wrong with a girl asking a guy.
