how many Christians know that " the Greek demigod Perseus was born when the god Jupiter visited the virgin Danaë as a shower of gold and got her with child. The god Buddha was born through an opening in his mother's flank. Catlicus the serpent-skirted caught a little ball of feathers from the sky and hid it in her bosom, and the Aztec god Huitzilopochtli was thus conceived. . . . Krishna was born of the virgin Devaka. . . . For some reason, many religions force themselves to think of the birth canal as a one-way street, and even the Koran treats the Virgin Mary with reverence ."

I love the way a number of the christians who've responded to this question can just sweep away all other religions examples of virgin birth, but still cling so desperatly to their version. For example:

Dulos says "Big difference - Christ is real, not a myth or man's religion"

and cmhelp1 said "The difference between each one of your examples of "Virgin Birth" is that the only one that counts is the TRUE birth of Jesus. These other births are myths and fantasy. . . "

They're just a few examples. It is quite amusing, that christians can recognise the concept of myth and fantasy when it is presented in differing religion, and just how idiotic the idea of virgin birth is, but they can't turn that perception towards their own religion. It must be like walking through life with tunnel vision.

Every culture has a savior born of a virgin. Especially those that predate Christianity. Some even predate Judaism. One of my friend's theorizes that they are all reincarnations of the same person. (Oddly enough the original Christians believed in reincarnation, before it became an organized religion). Here is a good example someone posted on a similar question. http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_jcpa5.htm P.

S. -Eds, Actually YOU need to study the belief system that your savior was brought up with. There were many signs to tell who the son of God was, Jesus did NOT fullfill them. That is why the Jewish people are still waiting. Unfortunately most Christians don't learn of the religion that Jesus was taught growing up. Heck, his name wasn't even Jesus. That meant "annointed one". P.P. S.- The "pagans didn't copy anything, they predated Christianity by a VERY long time. If you do some research in ancient customs and beliefs, you will see almost every aspect of Christianity is taking other cultural heros, holidays, and customs from the pagans and renaming them. Please, know what you are talking about so you don't give the decent Christians a worse name.

The new testament was originally written in Greek, since it was intended to convert Greek-speaking pagans, so naturally in order to speak their language and thoughts, Greek elements has to be included, virgin births were popular in Greek mythology, like Zeus mating with mortal women therefore literally many of Zeus children were of virgin births, and same goes with the resurrection.

i found an internet site that should describe some issues, right it is a quote: "because of the fact the custom became of employing male genealogies in ordinary terms, then how ought to an ancestral line of Jesus be shown by using Mary? evidently GOD left a handy loophole in this regulation that could enable women individuals to be risk-free interior the ancestral line in the event that they met 2 stringent circumstances... a million. Num 27:8, "consequently, tell the Israelites; If a guy dies with out leaving a son, you shall enable his background bypass directly to his daughter." 2. Num 36:6-7, "it is what the Lord instructions with connection with the daughters of Salphahad: they might marry everybody they please, presented they marry right into a prolonged family individuals of their ancestral tribe, so as that no background of the Israelites will bypass from one tribe to a different, yet each and all the Israelites will hold their very own ancestral background." So now, all we could coach is that: a million. the daddy of Mary had no sons. 2. Mary married interior of her very own tribe of Judah. Gen 40 9:8-12 " the positioning is a sprint small-time (sorry, i'm drained, i won't be in a position to think of of the right vocabulary,) yet you need to besides verify it out. link below. additionally, you're attempting to describe the excellent artwork of God by using way of technological know-how and human "expertise." Mary became no longer impregnated by using some random occurence that occurs in mammals as quickly as in a blue moon, God sent down an Angel to make her conscious that she would be impregnated, and the newborn stands out as the Christ. It became excellent, God made it happen. i be attentive to you do unlike solutions like that because you like to be attentive to the way it surpassed off, yet i've got not got an evidence for you.

Just because some narratives share a similiarity doesnt mean they are all right or all wrong. For instance, when cops interview witnesses to a crime, there is inevtiably always a liar on the scene as well as a person telling the truth. Their stories may share some similairity, but ultimately they are going to believe the person telling the truth and will expose the liar.

With all due respect, you dont need scientific proof to believe in God, nobody does. You dont have to be schooled in all the world religions and worldviews. People dont deny God because of what is or isnt in their minds, they deny God because of what is in their hearts. Once you have that faith though in your heart, GOD will PROVE himself to you by answering your prayers an even do miracles as much as your faith will allow. But if you dont approach God by faith, neither will you approach him by skepticism. If you concede there is no ultimate truth, youll guranteed NEVER find it.

He said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead. -Luke 16:31

Do you know that you are falling into Satan's trap, and that he is laughing his head off how you fell for these pagan lies that will keep you from believing the true Lord and Saviour - Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ was born of a virgin. As prophesied many, many years before in the Old Testament.
The Bible talks of gods ( myths, tools of Satan) that decieved people and angered God,but God won't force anyone to believe ,repent, and accept Him. He sent His only begotten Son to suffer, die, be buried , and rise again, so you could be saved from hell. He loved you and he knew that you would make fun of Him, question Him, and try to disprove Him, but He allowed His Son to die anyway. We are all born in sin and the punsihment for sin is death. Romans 5:12, Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23. But God had mercy and grace. He allowed His Son to make the ultimate ,complete sacrifice to pay for ALL sin. All we have to do is repent and accept Him.

I hope you do before before it is too late.

The Dalai Lama was NOT born of a virgin, or even a "virgin".

Buddha was taken from his mother's side, but there is no question that she got pregnant the good old-fashioned way.

That said, yes, christianity is funny.

Why would anyone assume that the elements of the Christ myth must be unique? If you read the writings of the ancient Church, they went *way* out of their way to prove that Christianity was NOT original or unique. Funny, back then the idea that Christianity was original or unique was the surest way to disprove the validity of the Christian religion.

That "virgin" thing, for Mary, is a mistranslation.

The original Greek said she was a young maiden.
