The number 40 in Semitic languages is symbolic of a long time....without precise measure.

"40 is the number of tribulation"
My pastor is battling cancer.
Pastor Rob turned 40, and foolishly an old lady in the congregation told him "40 is the number of tribulation" (based on those bible examples you gave) during a birthday celebration at Evangel.
I wish she had not! He was nice about it, but some of us were devestated by those thoughtless words.
She could've gone all day without saying that!
He went through Kemo without ever calling the "c" word by name.
He lost all his hair for a while; but one of his 4 young children said to him poignantly : "You are still my dad even if you are bald"!
During that period my kid bro Al died of cancer. A smoker, Al was spitting up blood from his lungs worse and worse.
I didn't want to bother him, but I had Pastor Rob praying for Al...what else could i do???
Now my pastor finally calls his brain tumour "cancer". He has progressed to radiation treatments, and his hair has made a comeback.
Good news: his brain tumour -- "cancer" has shrunk to almost nothing. Praise God!
We are praying for Rev Rob Elka, and you can too. We're believing God for a complete healing!!!

Aril,
Noah was on the Ark much longer than that. Our GOD has no physical body to have any problem with. We will also be spiritual in Heaven. Hopefully, you will change your ways before the Judgment Time. Have a great week.
Thanks,
Eds

The bible is full of patterns and numbers, a generation in the bible is 40 years, if you disobey God he will curse you for four generations which is 160 years.

At least some of this, and quite possibly all of it, is fiction. The Noah story, in particular, isn't real.

Okay, I thought this was going to be a serious question about typology. As it stands, all it did was remind me I'm constipated. Thanks.

Biblical authors should have atleast used some "variety" of ideas in different fairy tales.
