The Bible says don't kill. I think that's pretty cut and dry. Besides, this war is illegal and history is already judging it. Don't join, don't be a part of killing innocent civilians or risking your life for Bush's lie that led us into this mess. There are other ways to serve your country. Try Americorps or the NCCC. You pretty much have to be suicidal/ homicidal to want to join the armed forces right now. There's nothing noble about killing people or being killed. Why not considering volunteering your time here at home, doing something that will help people?

In the military there are conscious objectors but the thing with that is, if you are serious about the military you need to tell your recruiter and paperwork has to be filed, it's a process. you will have to prove that it is against your religion to "kill someone". It has been done and i knew a sgt who was a conscious objector, he had a medical type job, they would find some job where you would not be directly line of fire. But you have to file at the very very beginning, it needs to be in your contract, if you try to file as a conscious objector later on they will dismiss it and they you are just trying to get out of something. But you will need to prove it.
Maybe you should also look into other career paths that are simliar in nature but don't necessarily carry fire arms. Just explore as much options as you can first before you sign on any dotted line; you might find you like something better. Make sure you really know and understand what you are getting into. They don't say on all those military commercials the downside to military life. And what happens to a lot of soliders when they deploy, yes there is both good and bad but it is very political, very stressful and what you see and hear isn't necessarily what you get.

Actually the word for "kill" in Exodus 20:13 the is the word used for "murder".

In war time, people kill other people, it is a part of warfare. The soldiers of Israel down through history have killed their enemies and were not condemned by God as there is a definite difference between killing in warfare and murder.

Killing in warfare means that you are destroying an enemy's means to fight, whereas murder is a deliberate act of killing someone who is no threat to you.

So if you go to war and are in a battle, no it will not be held against you by God, unless for example you deliberately kill someone who is unarmed and begging for mercy, or kill someone who is not a threat to you. That would be murder.

I am a non-denominational Christian.

I hope this helps?

I'm a Christian, but I don't think that being in the army is wrong. I support our troops. Yes, the Bible says not to kill people.

... to be honest, I'm not sure how to answer that one. Would you go to Hell? Not if you're saved. But ask God about it. Really. If you want to know, He's not going to turn away.

Don't you know hell is only a hole in the ground (grave), every one is going to die and go to their grave(hell). When Jesus died He spend three day and three nights in the grave(hell), and then He was risen up out of the grave.
Jesus said the wages of sin is death, not a place of ever lasting torment. All sinners will be throw into the ever lasting fire to die!!! If you kill sinfully, then you are in danger of paying God's penalty, unless you repent and ask God for His forgiveness..

The Land Letter was a letter sent to President George W. It was co-signed by Chuck Colson, founder of Prison Fellowship Ministries, Bill Bright, chairman of Campus Crusade for Christ, James Kennedy, president of Coral Ridge Ministries, and Carl D. Acts 5:28-29" In answer Peter and the [other] apostles said: “We must obey God as ruler rather than men"

If god command not to kill but goverments commands to do it, who do you obey?

The 10 commandments are not commands to the government but to individuals. The commandment "thou shalt not kill" is better translated "thou shalt not murder". How could God command the Jewish people not to kill and then tell them to go and kill all of the pagans in the promised land?

Here's what the Bible teaches about the role of governments and by extension the role of an individual in the Army.

Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: 4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

St Joan of Arc did everything in her power to stop the conflict without having to fight, but after a battle, she walked through the killing fields, weeping for the souls unshriven.

Make sure your soul is shriven before you go into battle.
