\My question to you is what happens to the dog whilst the onwner/trainer is in prison? Who is going to want to care for a uncontrollable unsafe dog? Would you do that? There is a saying which everyone knows- 'you can't teach an old dog new tricks'. Basically what I'm saying is you can't untrain a violent dog. Now I love dogs, but sometimes thats the only way out.

Not every dog gets the death sentence when they bite. I agree that they should have the chance to be rehabilitated but I am also realistic in knowing that there are some dogs that are just too far gone from being abused and neglected that the most humane thing to do is to have them put to sleep. The owners of the dogs that do end up biting, should have to face some kind of punishment and I know of at least one case where they were. I do not remember how long ago it was but there was the 2 dogs that mulled someone and killed her. The owners were sentenced to jail time because of it. I think euthanizing a dog that bites needs to be a case by case thing. There are some dogs that with the right training and structure can make a complete turn around in behavior but there are those that may have suffered at the hands of their owners for so long that no matter how much you work with them, there is nothing that can be done.

If a dog attacks someone most the time they are tested to see if they are vicious. If they fail then we must put them down before someone is killed. In some state there are rules for a dog that has attacked like always leashed, muzzled or fenced properly in your yard. So not all do get the death penalty. And if it proven that the owner has acted irresponsible then they should pay some price.( jail or hugh fine)
you are right , it is clearly not any dogs fault. someone along the line did something to them even the ones that are in shelters that are put down such as over breeding or bad breeding (irresponsible owners again)

It's just like the death penalty, only called 'human euthanasia'. What cases do you mean? Like when a dog bites a human? Well, we have a French bulldog that bit my dad today, first time she's ever bitten anything alive, and she didn't mean to. Not all times are the dog's fault. I think the dog has a right to bite if it's being hurt or threatened. It's instinct and nature. If you're talking about dog fighting, those dogs are usually wonderful with humans, but "must" be put down because they cannot be placed in the average home (whatever). Some dogs are put down because they are to food agressive to place (again, could be retrained, makes me mad how quickly they are given up on). I would love to see humans have life sentences for abusing animals to, it would help the animals. yes, dogs should be given a chance, and even fighting dogs can be rehabilitated, or put in special homes (I had a dog that was aggressive with new people and new dogs, but was fine with us and our dogs) So, really, it's just humans not having faith in our canine companions.

I agree with you , these dogs should first be able to get a proper evaluation on their behavior but unfortunately they get euthanized most of the time. All we can do is hope that the people who train these dogs to be that way get a proper sentence for their crime because they don't only hurt the dog but they also hurt the victim of the attack. These dogs are not being this way by nature they get taught to act like that and they should be given a chance to get rehabilitated, not just given up on.

I agree 100%. I love the TV show The dog whisperer, with Ceasser Milan. He rescues all breds of dogs from pits to poodles and rehabilitates them so they don not need to be put down and he trains people to make their dogs a better pet. I also feel that people who abuse animals in any way should go to jail and not be able to ever own a dog or pet ever. And in jail he/she should be treated as they treated the animal. Dogs and all animals have feelings and will do anything/ even die for their owner. I'ts such a sad/sick world out there, A few weeks ago on the news a man tied his dog to a tree and burnt him, WHY? We need better laws to fight animal abuse. It is also known that people who abuse animals, also abuse and kill people and children.

Because once they've been trained to attack and kill, you can't untrain them. They will be a constant danger to people for the rest of their lives. It's better to put them down.
It may be unfair, and I don't blame the dogs but, as a matter of practicality, there is nothing else you can do. It comes down to a choice between the dog, and the next innocent person the dog will attack. And, make no mistake about it, the dog will attack again given the chance.
The only way to prevent another attack is to lock the dog in a cage for the rest of its life, and that's no way to treat an animal who had no say in the way it was trained. It's tragic, but the best thing for all concerned is just to put the dog down.

I love dogs, too, but when an animal bites a human we just can't take a chance that he'll do it again or kill someone. What if it was your child that he maimed or killed.
The person who trained the dog to be mean should have consequences, but I don't know how we could always prove that he was the cause of the viciousness.

Well, I do disagree with the common euthanizing of animals and of coarse I disagree with mistreatment and abuse of dogs but when people are caught abusing animals they DO go to jail, sometimes I don't think it's enough but it is something. They don't usually get away with it.

Well once they have been trained to attack / kill, do you want that dog living in your home?? People can't be rehabilitated usually, how can you reliably rehabilitate an animal that you can't reason with, you can't tell him what he did was wrong suddenly.. Maybe all those dogs that have been taught to maim and kill.. could live at your house w/ your family.
