Are you taking theatre? I do. I've learn that there a invisible wall between audiences and actors. That wall is called "fourth wall," I am not so sure. Acting is all about believing. You have to believe that you are a character, and make someone believe in you. You have to pretend that there no one in the room, kind of like you singing in the shower. If you can deal with that, it'll make you feel comfortable around people and yourself. And acting will be a bit easier. Don't hold back, you have to give 100% or more, because if you give 50% that what the audience see, and that's what your reward. If you want people to like you more, I suppose you should be friendly. Be friendly with everyone, even your enemy. If you can't then pretend, that's what the actors do best. One more thing, the school is opening next week. How can you go to class?Play nice. And don't ever forget to Believe.

First steps; ahead of the gig a usefull yoga exercise. Pick a safe secure place where you can chill. Have a good BM & P** and wash. Dress comfy, now selct a comfortable spot on floor, a bed or couch is not recomended but if hard floors bother you a rug or mat is fine. Dim the lights, lie down, do some slow breathing exercises while clearing your mind of all thoughts except thoughts regarding your monolouge.. Visualize the crowd, you probably know some of the faces, both during the exercise and at the event, pick out faces, familiar faces, why do you some CEOs have the same aid sitting in the same spot at every event? Or merely think on a face that 'comforts' you - - - During the exercise, run through your monologue, once again visualize, look over that crowd, they may be loud rude & hostile (judging by first answer), so what> You are you and you are important.

Carry this thought into the gig. You are You and You are someone who matters and what you say matters. Be friendly but above all be confident. So what if you trip over a word or two, you must be in control and never lose control or be flustered. When you are facing crowd seek out friendly faces, toss a smile here and there, then plunge into your speech with confidence.

Are you required to memorize? Are 3 by 5 inch cards allowed. You would be surprised how many professionals 'stash' cards on inside of arm/wrist, a clever magic trick, peopple assume that a big mucky muck newscaster can cough up "Missippippi Spaswolwsky Petroleum Planning Commission" so easilly, they're can read without glancing down!

Above all never panic nothing is the end of the World except the end of the World Itself...

Peace-------------------------

Memorize your speech by "beats," that is one idea or train of thought at a time, remembered through a short list of key words. If it is something like Shakespeare, paraphrase it first so you know where the natural pauses are. Practice until it is second nature. Perform it for friends and family. Record it and play it back as you listen, then speak along.
Good Luck!

Think of the people who are out there as being another flesh and blood person, like you. When you watch folk on stage speaking to you, are you nervous? No, you aren't. Pretend that you are in the crowd when you speak and your nervousness will go away. Remember this, What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? - Romans 8:31. The Lord daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. - Psalm 68:19. Before you go to speak, quietly say "Peace Be To This House." - Luke 10:5. Those who are on the premises with you, will be peaceful and attentive. This is what you desire. Peace and God Bless.

first rehearse the material, thoroughly. then practice in front of ever increasingly larger numbers of people. your brother first, then your whole family. then invite the neighbors.
it's all about confidence in yourself...and refuse to let hecklers affect your performance. laugh with them if they laugh. and if they otherwise heckle...look your teacher dead in the eyes...and continue as though nothing else matters
