Yes, they hurt. How bad it hurts depends on the size of the tattoo, the placement of the tattoo, and the skill of the tattoo artist.
Tattoos on the bone or on fat hurt the most. Upper arm is one of the least painful locations. Think long and hard before you get one, because it is with you for LIFE.
Check out the tattoo parlor, and the tattoo artist, before you commit. The tattoo parlor should be more than happy to show you their autoclave and spore test results, to verify that the equipment is clean- if they hesitate or give you grief about showing either one of those, walk away. The artist should have a good sized portfolio of previous work for you to look through; if you don't like the way their artwork looks, keep shopping around. When you meet someone with a tattoo (or a lot of them), ask them who they would recommend that is gentle.

It does not hurt as bad as a shot it is more like a prick with
a pin. The actual pain is also determined by the size of the tattoo you get an the number of colors used.Don't worry
though there is a salve you can put on to help in healing an it
makes it less sensitive numming effect.

All tattoos hurt. Anyone that says they don't is full of crap. Pain is relative. What my be excruciating to me may be moderately uncomfortable to you and vice versa. The level of pain will vary, not only on your own pain tolerance, but the location of application. Some areas are more sensitive than others...example, an upper arm is less painful than the ribs.
But to ask 'does it hurt' is like asking 'what is the best tasting food'...it's gonna differ with every single person.

I have 5 tattoos, I don't think it really hurts that much, It stings a little when they first start but the more they do it and fill it in it kinda numbs itself and won't hurt much. It hurts more after the fact while it is healing like if you bump it, then it does when they are doing it. that is just my opinion though

I have 6 and they do hurt a little. I am horrified of shots too but they feel nothing alike. To me it feels more like a burning sensation then stabbing like a shot. BTW I have one on both of my upper arms and they hurt less than any of my others.

⥠Well I got my first tattoo when I was 18 years old... I convinced myself that it was horrible, but when I finally got it I actually laughed because I had overreacted so much. You can certaintly feel it, but it is not unbearable by any means. I would make sure that you really make sure of what you want before you get one, because you dont wanna regret it. Good Luck!

It depends on what your pain tolerance is. You know how they make tatoo's, right. They inject the color into every pore of your skin in the area of the tatoo. It's like getting shot a ton of times. I hate getting shot's, too, and I would never, ever get one!

everyone has a different pain tolerance --- You only feel it as the needle is on your skin and for me it felt like small electrical impulses on the top of the skin --- as soon as they stop, the sensation is gone. Learn a method of meditation that works for you --- and use it if / when you get one!
