Here are my thoughts in order of likelihood:

1) Debris collecting around the pop-up valve in the sink. After a time, it takes on a foul smell. Removing the P trap under the sink and cleaning out the debris is not too difficult. Home maintenance and repair books show how it is done. A bottle brush used to clean baby bottles is a handy tool for this job.

2) If the drain is not used often, water in the P trap evaporates and sewer gas can enter the house. Simply pouring water down the affected drain every two weeks solves this problem.

3) A bird or other animal has built a nest or otherwise clogged the stack vent. If you have a ranch style house with a low sloped roof, you can go up on it and insert a plumbers snake down the vent. On two-storey houses and more modern homes with higher sloped roofs, I suggest you let a bonded professional do this.

4) A bird or other animal has gotten into the vent for the bathroom fan and died. Or, it may have gotten into the attic space above the bathroom and died.

Good luck

Some cleaning companies can help, but you'd probably want to call a plumber- cause chances are, whatever it is may be stuck in a drain.

As for specific numbers to call- perhaps your location in this wonderful world may help us to help you.
