I've asked a couple questions so far dealing with sexism, or lack thereof in the Bible. Only one clear scripture saying that women are equal to men to be found. Tons of sexist crap throughout. If Paul thought women were not his equals, thats his business, he could be a pig if he wanted. I think it's high time modern men stop using bronze age church rules to try to look down on women. If you agree, great! If you do not, who cares? You can all feel free to tell me how I'm going to hell now.

Well said. I don't know how any woman with even the tiniest degree of self respect can admit to being a christian. Same with any other group of good decent people the ignorant peasants who made up and wrote this trash decided to single out and cause untold suffering. They talk so proud, but, if they even had a clue, they would hide their heads in shame for being so gullible and short-sighted. I don't think most of them even realize how harmful they really are. They wonder why we can't just live and let live. They don't, so why should we? Religion is poison to the mind.

I'm sorry you feel that way...I've often appreciated that so many of the writers of the bible were actually early feminists not sexists! If they said some of the things they said in the Bible now, yes, they would be sexist...but many of those same statements were actually radical concepts to the people they were addressing. You have to remember that women weren't even citizens...they were the property of men at that time. They weren't allowed to even attend worship services or speak in public in some of the cultures Paul (and others) were writing to. Men believed that women were their servants, polygamy was common, and women could be legally beaten for disobeying even the smallest command by their husband.

Yes, some of Paul's words may sound sexist to you and even to me through the lens of 21st century "equality", but they were radical departures from previous teachings about the status of women. Yes, he said that women should be submissive to their husbands, but he also said that men should love their wives as Christ loved the church...this was a significant improvement over previous religions teachings about women. He also suggested that women should be free to remain single (very inconsistent with the ideas of the time) and he extended the principles of divorce to allow women to have the same freedom from unbelieving husbands as men already enjoyed. The precise wording of several of his letters also suggested that women were only under obligation to submit to their husband IF their husbands was also submissive to the Lord. A man that treated his wife with disrespect and hate isn't following God's instructions to treat her with love...I've heard modern pastors use the words of Paul to suggest that a woman is free to leave an abusive relationship...that wasn't allowed at the time he was writing!

I think women are pretty awesome...and I believe God thinks we are awesome as well. That doesn't mean I think men and women are equal...we are different...in some ways, women are more important than men and in some ways, men are more important than women in terms of the "master plan" for human existence on earth...overall, neither is more important or "better" than the other and the unique contributions of both are made even stronger when they are merged through marriage.

First, I agree with you. There is no difference in quality or value between men and women and the people who wrote the bible were sexist.

Second, you aren't going to make any progress with statements like the one you made above. Think about more effective wording.

Third, I'm worried about your blood pressure. Women can also get hypertension.

Boil it down to Paul and Peter. They didn't like women much. One has to wonder why.
That aside, yes Christianity is a bit sexist. In theory if you follow the Bible to the word, women SHOULD get respect, but unfortunately, they cherry pick the women are help meets and leave out the treat them good part.
Women are powerful beings. Perhaps that's the Pagan in me but I have never felt weak or helpless. Women are givers of life, mediaters of life and love, wisdom of healers. Women are pretty damn cool if you get to know how we tick.
Suck that Christians miss out on some of that.

People generally see what they are looking for.

Jesus treated women with dignity and respect. Two examples come to mind:

His own mother. The last act He performed on earth before He died was to see that His dear mother had a home for the rest of her life.

And the woman who was caught committing adultery (which, in that culture was a crime punishable by death): When the rulers brought this woman to Jesus to pronounce judgement on her, He stooped down and begin writing in the dust with His finger the sins of the people who had brought her there. One by one they slipped quietly away thru the crowd as they saw their own sins.

Then Jesus stood up and asked the woman, "Is there no one left to condemn you?" And she answered. "No one, sir." And He kindly, graciously said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go, and don't sin any more."

Since Jesus is our example, and since He is the God of creation and the One who inspired the Bible to be written, we should look at what He thinks and never mind what others think. The Bible was written a very long time ago in a different culture and different languages (than ours), so it may sound to us like the writers didn't respect women. But the fact that the Bible writers record accurately the behaviors and attitudes of the people living in that culture, at that time, is not reason to accuse them of being sexist.

And if you are going to target people who are sexist pigs, look at women's magazines, men's magazines, television, movies, billboards, women's fashions in clothing--well, almost anything in society. None of it shows much respect for women, and women do their part to participate in that, too.

I won't tell you you're going to hell... I don't think that way. I don't recognize that there's such a place in any case and I'm not going to condemn you for anything. So...

I just want to add that I do have a small dislike for being thought of "a sexist pig" and I certainly don't agree with the notion that "women rule" or that they ought to any more-so than men. Equality is good enough for me and I hope you'll be agreeable enough to see that it's good enough for you, too.

Can I choose Plan B - the option without any bibles or women that rule?

I support freedom of and from religion, and equality in leadership for those who are qualified to lead - and not just by their gender alone.

wow such Anger. Who's hurt you so badly that has caused this? I am not trying to be argumentative, nor funny, I truly am concerned. I will be praying for you. And shame on them!!! If you are secure in who you are as a women then who cares what foolish people think. Obviously without us men wouldn't be here.!!! God obviously likes women because he used one to bring Jesus into the world. The bible is full of powerful women. He used them as Judges, profits, etc.......One has to take in context for that time period that Paul was writing. When it was written men and women sat in separate parts of the synagogue, women would holler across the temple to the men and ask them questions that's what he was dealing with when he said women should be silent. And yes there are those men who will disagree but that's their problem. Praise the Lord anyway.
