I have been struggling with mental health issues all over the spectrum I have tried several times to find a solution or diagnosis myself but obviously that hasnt worked out considering i am only 15 and no where near smart enough to know what my diagnosis is, i have a pyschiatrist but she just basically gives me medicine, i have been diagnosed with depression insomnia and anxiety problems and i am currently being treated for them but something is still wrong, should i go to a outpatient facility to have a pyschiatric evaluation and maybe then find what is wrong with me,

anyone that has had a pyschiatric evaluation at an outpatient or inpatient clinic please tell me how yours went and if it was the right choice,, thank you.

First of all you will not be able to diagnose your mental disorder. You are a smart person, for one very important thing is that you know you have a problem and that you need help. usually, not always but mosts pyschiatrists can "Label Us" then they will probably give us medications they believe are improving our disorders. If you are being prescribed medication then you probably have been diagnosed by the professional that you are seeing at thia time. There are several different testing for evaluation. If you are not improving and you are not satisfied with the doctor, you may want probably to seek another pyschiatrist. You might want to discuss your feelings about this with your current doctor and ask for another treatment plan that you both decide to work towards and what you feel that you need.. It probably be a very good idea to see a therapist that you would talk about whats going on. He/She would work with you also about the evaluation that you would like to have. I had an evaluation, it concerns questions on topics that relate to feelings and other life style concerns. It is not difficult but generally takes several hours. I had mine at my therapist's office but only she wasnot there. The testing person came in and out and helped me with any questions and was most helpful and reassuring. You may also call an outpatient clinic would also be helpful with your questions

If you would like a second opinion then by all means that is your right. As far as trying to diagnose yourself, thats a bad idea. Depression, insomnia, and anxiety, are diag. However if you feel something else is wrong I would encourage you to talk with your current pysc. then if this isn't adressed I would by all means get a second opinion.
Good luck

All you need to do is to talk very honestly and openly with your doctor. If you don't think the medication is helping, tell your doctor why you don't think it's helping.

Psychiatrists give medication to help with mental health problems, that's what they do. They don't necessarily talk with you that much other than to ask you what your symptoms are and if you are feeling better.

If you want to go to a professional who talks to you more, maybe you can go to a counselor as well. You can ask your doctor about that.
