Currently I take Prozac along with risperdal for anxiety, depression and some paranoia I was experiencing. The problem is that the Prozac has zapped my libido and have heard that Wellbutrin can actually help with the sexual side effects. I've told my psychiatrist about the side effects but keeps putting off a prescription change. Has anyone taken wellbutrin with risperdal? Does Wellbutrin also help with anxiety?

Wellbutrin was first used as a stop smoking patch (Zyban). It is a good antidepressant for the most part. There is a chance of developing psychosis while taking Wellbutrin but it is very rare. Does your doctor know about your libido problem? He or she probably considers you stable and is reluctant to change your med regimen. Wellbutrin works similar to Prozac. In other words, not a sedating med like Zoloft.

There is good news and bad news - Wellbutrin does help with the sexual side effects, but it can increase anxiety.

Perhaps this is why your doctor won't make the change.

Have you had probs with other side effects like weight gain or sleepiness? Do you feel better overall? Maybe think about a change of doc as well as a change of meds.

I have been on all these drugs in the past - Prozac, Wellbutrin and Risperdal. I was also under the impression my probs were anxiety, depression and paranoia. It turns out I am bipolar and now take lithium and am doing great.

Check out more info at the link below, and double check your diagnosis. It may be you need to reassess a lot of stuff, or maybe just add the Wellbutrin. It will almost certainly assist with libido - the anxiety effect is an unknown.

Good luck - I know getting the right mix of medication can be a slow and difficult process but it is SO worth it.

Not personally, but there isn't a problem doing Wellbutrin and Risperdal. I know others. Wellbutrin can increase anxiety, in some a lot. Others are fine with it. Maybe check with your pdoc about adding a low dose of Wellbutrin to your cocktail. You don't necessarily need to stop what's working. That's probably a better way to go than switching.

Is your doc checking your prolactin levels regularly? That's a really common SE to Risperdal, and the reason my pdoc rarely puts anyone on it.

I took welbutrin XL and risperdal, and I didn't have a problem. If you feel your doctor isn't doing a good enough job, you need to get a second opinion.

Any benefit of Wellbutrin, for me, wasn't worth it, because it just doesn't work. I took it to lose weight, my first drug was making me gain, but that didn't happen. I just got bigger. My sleeping habits didn't get better - just worse.
Sexual habits, nothing changed (I'm saving myself). I got off that drug as soon as I could. Did nothing good for me.
