Reserve deputy-a sheriff deputy that works when available,no pay.Right now the one car for 8 deputies is parked at the county garage. It would be a lot easier if you would be able to just go in your garage and start your shift instead of driving out of your way to transfer your equipment from your P.O.V to the sheriff car, also saves a lot of time.

As just a Joe Shmo citizen, I think it's a great idea to have a cop car parked in the neighborhood. Seems like it'd be a nice deterrent for crime in that area.

Oh yeah... except for all the money problems it would cause.
Oh well. There's usually enough crime in my neighborhood, that there's a cop car or two around when I get home, anyway...

Um... If there's one car for EIGHT reserve deputies. then how do you propose determining who gets the car at any given time?

Since the Sheriff's Dept. is unlikely to be willing to buy seven more cars, it sounds almost completely unworkable.

If I was the Sheriff, I would not provide a take home vehicle for reserves. Those resources are best kept for sworn peace officers.

I would be great for me to work at home every day, too, instead of driving out of my way to get to work.

The fuel and wear and tear on that sheriff's car are paid for by the tax payers. It is not fair for you to use it to get to and from your home, just because it's more convenient for you. Remember, as a deputy, you are a public SERVANT. It does not entitle you to special priveleges.
